Right. Bell Canada controls and owns 100% of Virgin Mobile in Canada.

Wow, the mis-information and lack of knowledge is scary.

I'm glad there are others that have corrected this already. To re-iterate...

Wind worked with Industry Canada to gain approval for their license to operate in Canada. They worked out foreign ownership rules (like voting rights, etc.) Industry Canada approved Globalive's license. Wind was legally allowed to operate in Canada.

The CRTC has not even advised on what points where they decided to rule against Industry Canada. As I stated before, the timing suggests that this is simply going to delay the launch of Wind Mobile so that the Bellus network can get first to market.

The CRTC is in bed with the big 3...don't forget the CRTC decision against net neutrality. The CRTC is not looking out for Canadians. It is looking out for Canadian companies.

And, as stated before, Wind is employing 100% Canadians. Even their call centre is in Canada. Compared to Bell and Telus who have offshored their call centres. If the license is not granted, all these people will be out of a job (around 500 so far). The CRTC is only interested in protecting Telus, Bell, and Rogers.

They should've known better when (many years ago) AT&T made a deal with Cantel to buy into the company and it was shot down by the CRTC because they will only allow a US company to invest 33% into a Telecommunications company. So AT&T lowered it to 33% and it went through.

I'm not saying I don't want Wind Mobile to operate in Canada. I was upset that it got regreted. But they did it to themselves. So we can only hope that they can find another Canadian investor to get it approved soon.

I'm pretty sure that the TELUS Mobility call centre is in Canada.

And you're right that Wind changed their voting structure, etc to get Industry Canada approval but the CRTC wasn't convinced that this would change anything. The CRTC couldn't see how a foreign company that was holding the majority of Wind's debt would not get its way with how the company will be run, even if on paper, they had a smaller say about the operations of the company.

I'm all for competition but Wind needs to play by the rules. Does anyone know why they are having such a hard time getting Canadian investors???

They are playing by the rules otherwise Canada shouldn't have taken their money for the spectrum and Industry Canada wouldn't have approved them. When Industry Canada checked their foreign owner ship structure, they used the exact same laws and rules as the CRTC used when making the decision if WIND can operate or not. The problem is that the CRTC had to listen to Telus, Rogers, and Bell. If the big 3 wouldn't have asked the CRTC to look at Wind's foreign ownership structure, the CRTC wouldn't have looked into it. I find it ridiculous the CRTC listened to them. If the CRTC wanted to review Wind it should have been done a year ago at the same time as Industry Canada.

I'm starting to believe this... having the 4th national cell carrier launching in Canada and I have yet to see one piece of news on TV about this. Enough about H1N1 tell me what else is going on.

I have a few friends who work for Telus. They work in Burnaby at a call center. As far as I know, they take calls for home installs, internet, phone, etc.

i used to work for Telus Mobility. I know for a fact that work has been offshored to India (not necessarily the customer facing people). Unless they brought it back after I left.

They would never take ALL the CSR jobs out of Canada, but a sizeable amount for sure.

Didn't Brian Tobin once propose starting call centres in NFLD? That would have been a good boost to the economy.

If the phone is unlocked it does not matter who the carrier is.
