Wi-fi Hotspot Setup prompt problem
Running 5.0.0.979, developed this problem when I got home today when my phone automatically connected to my wifi. It keeps putting the red star beside the grayed out wifi icon and wants me to run setup. Setup reads "The network you are connected to appears to be a hotspot. Click Wifi-Hotspot login to continue". I've never had this happen before and when I click it, it says I'm connected but it just keeps coming right back. My internet browser won't even recognize my wifi. Anyone have any ideas?

Ok...maybe this is related to the numerous BIS/BES outage threads

I have the same problem too. It's telling me that I have to login to the hotspot. Crazy, could be the BIS/BES over WIFI issue that's plaguing all of us. I originally thought my carrier (who seems to be supporting this) that they're getting people only to use mobile data instead of wifi as a way to get us to be billed $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

And another "me too". I noticed it about 5:30p EDT when I was headed home from work. It has been driving me crazy all evening and I finally decided to come here to check it out. Glad I'm not alone

I noticed the same thing yesterday right after I did the upgrade to .600.
Stupid question, If you connect to wi-fi, but the blackberry network remains on your carriers, do you connect to the internet through the wi-fi or the carrier network? I'm thinking the bb services like bbm go through the carrier because I can't send a message when connected to wi-fi only, but everything else goes wi-fi. I hope this is the case as I use Pandora all day long and would hate to have it go through the carrier and run up the charges. - 06-11-2011, 07:38 AM #15
Same thing ("Setup reads "The network you are connected to appears to be a hotspot. Click Wifi-Hotspot login to continue". I've never had this happen before and when I click it, it says I'm connected but it just keeps coming right back.") has started to happening to me since yesterday. I'm on O2 in the UK and it's so irritating! Does anyone know of a fix for this yet?!

Thanks for the heads up, gjoseph, I'd posted about this same issue in a similar thread. With Vodaphone, mobile network turned off b/c I'm in the US at the moment, and having the wifi hotspot issue with my 9520 since yesterday. Glad to see I'm not alone but I hope it gets fixed soon!

Yes, its getting very irritating as its still doing it this morning..Strange how its happening all around the world but nobody knows why..I need Wifi at home as I am on a range extender just to get cell service here in the sticks. It seems to work fine just the red asterisk constantly.
