Default What are some of the pros and cons of the .714 T-Mobile update?

Want to update my 9700 to .714 but I'm a little nervous that I'll regret it. Any advice?

Works well on my end...seems like battery life is slightly better and stronger UMA/wifi signal. Not a huge jump overall through and I was coming from .330, which seems to be ancient!

Oh Pandora works better as well...bout it for me..

    Haven't really noticed anything bad...

What to you think you might regret?

My advice... try it and see for yourself.

If it doesn't work for you, then just rollback to your previous dinosaur OS

If you're on tmobile, why would you NOT want to upgrade to their official OS?

I liked the older(.330) look of the uma w/ the pink circles since it was easier to tell when connected. But I'm fine dealing w/ the grey/white parentheses.

That's what I'm thinkin, why question, just doo it. Only takes like half hour- hour.

No threaded sms view on today theme as far as I can tell. It is kinda lame imho.

Thanks Daniel. It won't actually be a 'threaded' view, just the time/date, name of sender, and first line of the last message received.

I'm just trying to prove a little theory of mine

    Final question for .714 users:-

When you power off the phone, is there a little blue cursor mark that can be moved around in the popup box that appears, saying 'Turning handheld off'?

The blue cursor's there in .714, but the phone shut down before I had a chance to try moving it. What use do you have for that feature?

My UMA signal still has the pink or red circles when it is on with the white and black wifi under it. I am on the new .714 OS by T-Mobile. I have upgraded and have used many OS and all have had the same UMA and wifi signals as the .330 OS had.

    Thanks for confirming that.

There's absolutely no use for that 'feature' but it does confirm my theory about .714

    OK, here ya go...

5.0.0.714 is not a 'new' OS build as the version number would suggest, but is actually a 'tweaked' (custom or hybrid - call it what you want) OS build using 5.0.0.586 as a base.

I've absolutely no problem with this, and it's not the first time this has been done by carriers (just look at AT&T's .405 and .602), but it does get a tad confusing for those of us who want the very latest OS build and assume 'the higher the version number, the newer the OS'.

I never fully let it update either. I'm still stuck at work so I can't diagnoses this further but it's on my mind.

I only thought I had one theme and I never change it. After activating the Precision T-mobile theme my signal indicator went back to pink / red circles. Previously I was on Precision Zen which has the (((t))) that is grey like the normal service indicator.

It's easier to see at a glance w/ it being a brighter color. Wanted to post my solution since I didn't find it anywhere else, one of those small problems that was on my mind every time UMA was active.

The standby is a fix as far as i'm concerned. That was getting pushed in my pocket and taking me offline all the time.
The upgrade has ruined the camera, making it take longer to shoot, takes fuzzy pictures with smaller files.
The upgrade makes me lose 3g to edge, at my home where previously has great 3g. On the road.
The upgrade has made the bluetooth harder to lock in with my garmin gps.
The upgrade seems to make UMA harder to switch to and hold.
Anyone gone back down to 568?
