first, my phone is currently locked; can i unlock it without causing any issues with my current Service Provider? I will be resuming service with them when I return to Canada. | As stated call your current Service Provider to unlock - discuss the option of going to Australia. They should assist you here. second, will my phone work there? I'm not up to speed on mobile technology and dont know if there are different tech standards in different areas.
| Australia has three main mobile/cell operators.
Telstra - 2100/1900/850/800 MHz
Optus - 2100/1700/900 MHz
Vodafone/3 - 2100/1700/900 MHz
Go to Options/Device/About Device Versions (this might differ depending on your OS) and see if it lists the 3G bands? On my Bold 9700 3G Bands 1,4,8 denotes compatibility with 2100/1700/900 MHz. 3G Bands is listed as 1,2,5,6 which denotes compatibility with 2100/1900/850/800 MHz frequencies. Quote: |
thanks in advance to whoever answers my simple questions.
