Hello Crackberry-ites,

So a few weeks ago I nuked my 9530... (alright, here comes the Storm haters... ) but I actually really liked my S1, so much in fact that I didn't see it worthwhile to drop coin on an S2 when it came out after playing with my brother in-laws, my fat fingers do very well on the virtual keyboard, and after adjusting the screen I had the click perfectly soft and responsive, and easily able to keep up to my quickest text or email.

Anyways, killed my S1 (copious amounts of alcohol and vomit, don't ask), my wife has a Tour, which she loves and I really like, but I didn't want the same phone as her, plus our network (sasktel) just went 3G and I wanted to be on the faster network, preferably also with wifi...

Soooo, this week I got a 9700... Never played with one before, but I've read lots and lots in this forum and the general feedback is almost always positive.

First impressions are wow... very smooth and fast (much faster at almost anything than the S1 or Tour) , same beautiful screen as my wife's Tour, and same beautiful keyboard... OR so I thought!

On closer inspection, although my 9700 is smaller in size than the 9630, the actual keys (especially the outter edge keys) are actually bigger! I (with big mechanic hands) actually have an easier time typing on the Bold keyboard than the Tour! Now, reading lots on here, I was under the impression that the keyboards were EXACTLY the same... but they're not.

I wasn't sure about the trackpad at first... I've read tonnes about the 'wiggle' and intermittent poor clicking, but overall I'm very impressed. I can navigate slightly quicker and more accurately with the trackpad than I ever could with the trackball (oh, and FYI, my wife abuses her Tour! It gets thrown in a purse filled with crap on a regular basis, without a case or holster, and her trackball has worked perfect for over a year! so I'm defineatly NOT putting down the trackball)

On the con side, the Tour is slightly heavier than the Bold and I'm the kind of person that likes a bit of weight in my pocket or holster, (like my old S1) you can always 'feel' the phone on you, without doing the hand scramble every ten minutes to make sure you didn't forget it at home. The bit of extra weight also makes the Tour feel a bit more 'solid' and substantial...

So this is also me saying hi, as I will now be lingering in the 9700 forums, spitting out my useless two cents here from time to time

(until I get a 9780, or 9900, or 10700...)

hey,

(fellow toon towner here) i have an s2 with work and was wondering if you had an upgrade from the s1 to the 9700 or did you have to buy it outright to get the bold? the s2 is alright and i have a tour for personal use and i definately prefer the full keyboard vs the virtual.

Storm 2 ROCKS! Storm 1 was actually alright, from my limited experience. Bold is pretty awesome. Tour SUCKS!!! You're not the only that loves to put in a worthless two cents, but when it comes to me, and including inflation, it's more like $20!!! ;D

I was only on contract for one year, so I still had to wait another year for a full upgrade credit... So yeah, I had to pay full retail price. Oddly the Pearl 3G, Tour, and S2 are all (retail) priced higher than the Bold 9700, go figure :s
