It's not that hard. There's a video on youtube to disassemble the 9700 and you can order a replacement screen from Cellular Nationwide Network - 3G, Sony, Panasonic, LG, SonyEricsson, Nokia, Tools, BlackBerry,. I think it's around 80-90 dollars. You can try to return it for a new one but most likely they will say that it's your fault and won't replace it under warranty.

How did the crack happen? Either replace the screen or buy a new/refurbished device.

Just tell them that your phone is constantly rebooting and you've already tried updating the software. Also, tell them that your screen just randomly blacks out from time to time. I manage an AT&T store and we use this all the time to get warranty replacements sent out. I would imagine that it would work just the same if you went in to the store. Just hope and pray that you don't get a rep to do the exchange that actually does their job. We are tought to thoroughly inspect every device that is returned for liquid and/or physical damage! Good luck. PS- you have 30 days from your date of purchase to add wireless phone insurance through your carrier. Just call CC.

I have a wireless phone insurance through future shop where I got the phone...offers over the counter replacement but I doubt it covers physical damage so I'm looking for an easy excuse to return it...I don't even know how she broke as its never fallen as far as I'm aware of. It could've happened in my case as I bumped against something when I was out and about. Good thing my Defender is on its way

File a claim unless you feel comfortable replacing it yourself. Look at it as a learning experience and don't try the easy way out by trying to invent an explanation. It is not worth it.

do you mean you have a CRACK or a SCRATCH? when you say "crack" i imagine a broken LCD display.
