Question about 9700 issues
Hi all,
Just got an AT&T 9700 last week and I'm having some issues with it. Not sure if these are hardware issues specific to my device or the model, or software issues that others are seeing. Can anyone comment if they've seen similar problems – I’m trying to gauge if a replacement will help me…
1) When 3G is enabled, calls constantly fade out (but do not drop) for 10-30s during the call a few times - I can't hear anything and the person on the other end can't hear me. Then the person on the other end comes back (they hear garbled noise, clicks, etc. while I've faded out - I hear nothing). Just to see if it's 3G, I switched the phone to EDGE only and still have been seeing higher than average drops.
2) Sometimes the left and right convenience keys don't function until I reboot the device. Sometimes they work fine - other times, pushing them does nothing. Have never seen this issue on any other BB before ever.
3) On some threaded SMSs, when a new sms arrives and is added to an existing thread, I can't open the thread to see the message unless I reboot. I click and the device does not respond.
4) When I'm in my browser, on the history/search/bookmarks home page, every other BB I've owned, the back key exits the browser. On the 9700, I need to hit end to exit the browser. Not sure if this is a feature or a bug...
The items 2-4 seem like potential software issues. The first is the most concerning but could be hardware-based I suppose. Unlike others posting here, I think the build quality on my device is pretty good, but I haven't seen the issues above posted.
Thanks for any thoughts! - 12-01-2009, 09:25 PM #2
I've experience your #1 issue as well, but I've seen this across different 3G devices as well. I'd like to know what's causing it. It got really bad today, to the point where we resorted to landlines.

On issue #1, this maybe an issue with the 3G signal losing strength in certain areas. I live in NYC and my 3G is very strong and don't get any fading or dropped calls at all!
