    Default prioritize WLAN over wireless?

    Hi,

there's a year-old question about this with no answer.

EGDE is too slow, can I use WLAN instead? Without turning the phone off? Without executing a complex script "between keyboard and chair" each time?

    thanks...

You mean to use it for web browsing or some app downloading? For Web Browsing you gotta use the Hotspot Browser vs the Browser and for some app, that's usually setup in the app itself.

Manage Connections->Mobile Network Options, should look like this:

Then, whenever you're in Wi-Fi, you should be on Wi-Fi.

Wi-fi preferred looks good, but this option is missing on my BB. Maybe my carrier blocks it, or do I need an update (v5.0.0.351)? It's T-Mobile.

T-Mo definitely has that option, but if you have an unlocked device, and are using it on T-Mo, that would explain it. Grasping here.

I have two handsets (1x OEM unlocked and 1x T-Mobile). However, I do not see the "Connection Preference" option on either handset.

Anyone, able to shed any light as to when someone sees this option? Is it carrier controlled?

i wish i could find this out too. whenever im on wifi i have to change my internet browser to hotspot and you can definitely tell the speed differences once i change the preference. once you're out of wifi you have to manually switch it back.

Superb question, wise solution, too bad the option doesn't show! Haha

Which I would expect the phone to do itself automatically (i.e. knowing if it was or was not connected to a WiFi net).

Even with the bookmarks it saves as to which browser should be used. So, even if I am connected via WiFi, although my icon is always grey & yes I do have a BIS account, some bookmarks will start to use 3G/EDGE data services instead.

It all gets rather frustrating and not something you would expect from a "smartphone".

I'm missing this option also. I don't think it's an OS issue, though. I've run .296, .405 and .423, but still never had this option available to me. My phone is an unlocked at&t branded 9700. BigBadWulf, is your phone at&t branded?

That was on an unlocked T-Mo now on at&t. at&t is who's missing it, I'm now on an at&t branded phone. I'll be mucking with it till I get that back though.

I hope you're successful and wish you luck. I'm starting to think this has something to do with service books.

Most likely the case, and I'll get it back. I liked it too much.
