    Default Phone keeps bricking itself?

As the title says, I took on a mission to "save" my friends phone that he was having issues with. Needless to say, the first time to get it working again, it took me about 7 hours of work until I somehow managed to reload the OS. It just had a black screen, and a blinking LED

Long story short, I was able to get it functioning properly until today. Received a missed call, so I went and checked it. Five minutes later, I grabbed the phone back to check the number, and I realized the phone was off and back to it's usual blinking red LED. The sequence is 110110110, and this will go on and on as long as there is a battery and/or it's plugged.

Any ideas? Is this phone just simply toast and hardware is at fault?
