    Default Onyx Screen

Has anyone noticed how the screen on the onyx has a sort of black frame round it, cutting out like part of the screen? wtf is this about?! and is anyone particularly bothered?

Yes, it is very small in comparison. That is the only thing I don't like about the 9700 in comparison the the 9000. I mis that screen real estate.

It is an awesome phone, but you're giving up a huge screen for a very small one.

Is the display really significantly smaller??? Well, that kinda sucks because the display and the browser are the only things I dislike about the bberries.

Yes the display is much smaller than that of the 9000. The screen is the same size as the 8900. The 9700's screen is great and looks fantastic, but it's much smaller than the Bold's.

There is a border. Personally, I don't find it to be a problem. I would prefer it to be the full screen, but it's not that big of a deal. I mean, there is a border on the 9000 too, so. The device is really a good one. The only drawback is the smaller screen. The 9700 is very very small in comparison to the 9000, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I just hate giving up the big screen of the 9000. Other than that, it's great.

I wonder if the screen size is one factor the reported MUCH-improved battery life in the 9700? That Bold screen had to pull some juice. I know LCDs aren't terrifically power-hungry, but still... could that make a difference?

    Default unit

    hmmm

I keep wondering why they cut the 2 hold speakers for the one
and decreased volume. ? .. now the smaller screen and a border.

9000 had the best sound of any phone, its clear, loud and just natural Large Screen( you say it had a border too well I never noticed prolly cz mot of the images I use are dark ... ), all they needed was more ram and better camera ..

but I guess they wanted to innovate which is fine..

well I can't judge this unit till I try it .. so I will reserve till then

all the other stuff on this 9700 seem like good improvements
i wonder if it will be enough to compete

CX - are we looking at the same screen on the Onyx as the Tour from a size perspective. I did a real quick google search, but couldn't come up with anything definitive.

You know, I'm always surprised when I hear about the Bold's battery life....I don't have a problem with it. I *did* have a problem with the outrageously sucky battery on the iPhone and I returned it on the 29th day....I can go days with the Bold, the better part of a week, whereas I couldn't go near a day and a half with the iPhone.

That's my only issue with the 9700! I love the size of my Bold, but I'm still going to give the Onyx a shot and see how it goes..

You sure? I don't know why they would use a different screen than the 8900.

I love the size of my bold ! And I noticed that the screen on the 9700 looks a lot smaller I wonder if it is because people bitched at the size
Of the 9000 ? I guess I won't get the 9700 just because of that. 9520 or broke

That's the number of pixels/resolution, not the actual size of the screen.
So it will be a sharper but smaller picture on the 9700.

And the 'Wake up!' came off slightly condescending for someone who didn't understand the issue themselves
