Makes sense RIM has changed model #'s often.
Also the Tour being 9630 isn't much of an upgrade
and this seems like a good upgrade. I can't wait for
this to come out 9020 or 9700 I'm all in regardless.

Since the 9700 does not appear to be 3G, it would not be worth trading in my Bold.

well the only way to judge this stuff is by the final specs not the model numbers and well the ease of use or style you like best.

I think 9700 would make more sense for the Onyx as it is too small for the Bold 9000 family IMHO.
