Updated OS UPGRADE GUIDE
Here's my updated OS install guide if anyone needs a refresher...
ELITE1's OS UPGRADE GUIDE
(updated 2012-09-01)
- (Optional) Uninstall any previous OS from PC.
- Download OS to PC. Use Internet Explorer, not Firefox or Chrome. (For leaked versions, browser is irrelevant.)
*If 100% certain you previously used FF or Chrome on same PC to DL an OS successfully, feel free to use FF or Chrome again. - Following successful DL, run OS file to install OS on PC.
- On BB, go to BBM Options, scroll down to Backup section. Ensure Remote Backup is enabled AND also conduct a Local Backup to media card.
- Go through any 3rd party apps with option to save settings to media card. Conduct Backup to media card within each of these apps. (Examples: Bellshare apps like BerryBuzz & BerryWeather; QuickLaunch; Shao's apps like Wallpaper Changer & SixTools; etc).
- Connect BB to PC. Open DM and backup device. Close DM.
- (Optional) Use desktop app like BBSAK or BBMCP to backup 3rd party apps.
- On PC, delete Vendor file located here:
64-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader
32-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader - (Optional/Recommended) Run BBH Tool (formerly Shrink-A-OS) or BB Boss v2.2 (not as updated as BBHT).
- In same AppLoader file where you deleted Vendor, double-click Loader to load OS to BB. Follow onscreen instructions.
- After loading OS, perform several physical battery pulls over first 1-2 days for OS to "settle in." Perform first batt pull very soon after OS is loaded.
**TROUBLESHOOTING**
How to Fix OS not Appearing as Available
There are 2 common reasons:
A. HIDDEN VENDOR FILE
Consider trying this new desktop app to remove Vendor from several common locations:
http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...-files-709738/
If manually deleting Vendor, always hold down SHIFT and press DELETE to permanently delete.
Check here first:
64-bit: Computer\C:\Users\{USER NAME}\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
32-bit: Computer\C:\Documents and Settings\{USER NAME}\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
If Loader still doesn't make new OS available, search PC for "Vendor".
If Vendor is not found anywhere, see below to delete contents of AppLoader folder. (Folder where you found Loader & Vendor.)
B. APPLOADER FOLDER ITEMS
- Uninstall the OS: Control Panel\Programs and Features, highlight this BlackBerry Device Software, click Uninstall at top.
- Delete AppLoader folder contents: Highlight any item, CTRL+A to select all, SHIFT+DELETE to permanently delete.
64-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader
32-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader - Restart PC.
- Re-install OS on PC: Go to your browser's downloads section, double-click OS to start InstallShield Wizard.
- Delete Vendor: Return to AppLoader folder, highlight Vendor, SHIFT+DELETE.
- Load OS to BB: Attach BB to PC, double-click Loader (in AppLoader folder, where you deleted Vendor).

been using 2x 9700's for almost 2 years, and this *.749 is easily the most stable, fastest and has ALMOST completely fixed the memory leak.
only problem i can find on my 9700s are the GPS taking forever to get a satellite lock (could be location problem not OS)

Hello everyone,
I seem not to be able to download the file: it is gone from T-Mobile AT server.
Any chance for an alternative download link? - 01-22-2013, 09:26 AM #14

No, your BIS service is unrelated from which specific OS version you are running.
Has your BIS service been off ever since you updated your OS to this one?
If so, do a Register Now.
Open Options app. Type "host" and select Host Routing Table. Click MENU key (BB logo button) and select Register Now.
Within 15 minutes you should receive a service message from your carrier and/or RIM. Once received, perform a battery pull for good measure to reboot your device.Saving the world, one OS at a time...

thanks for the heads-up. what happened after my successful upgrade was that i lost my email setup application icon. the ".cod" was still present though, but i could not get to my bis account even through the "options" of my mail settings. so, i thought i'd revert to my previous bbos 6 i.e. 723, but i got more frustrated when it led to me to the dreaded "507" white screen via a wipe with bbsak. but after several attempts, managed to revive my nuked bb with .749, but still without any email setup icon, but this time i could access my bis account through the "options" of mail settings. i guess i'll live with that. another point to share was that i now have a "certificate search" icon which asks me for some inputs in a screen upon clicking on that icon- but i did not move on. - 04-21-2013, 12:15 AM #25
Has anyone noticed any bugs? I have a 9700 that is on OS 5. And I remember long ago, when OS 66 leaked, it made to device a bit slower.
