New or Used/refurbished
The other day I came across a shop who was selling 9700 at a very reasonable price. By reasonable I mean less than the normal market price. I thought it must be used or refurbished but the shop boy said/insisted its brand new.
Is there any way to find out??.
And is it true that Blackberries handsets have some sort of internal/secret clock which tells how much a phone has been used? - 04-21-2010, 09:30 AM #2
Not so sure about a secret clock, but I'd be careful, if they're swearing up and down that it's brand new, it could be stolen or counterfeit. Or they're bluffing.

It shows data usage and voice usage (airtime).

That's the only way. And if it's ever been connected to the internet it'll show. It'll also show if it has ever been used to make phone calls.

The "buyr" method has been somewhat debunked on these forums. I've seen refurbs read 0 and my new one read over 4 days of talk time, when it was manufactured a mere few eeks before receipt. Some users have reported usage going up 2 days after.a 5 minute phone call. I'd take it witha grain of salt.

Not to undermine you or anything but are you wanting to find out just for piece of mind? Or find out if you're just being straight up lied to? Granted, I think most of us would want to know, but I mean, if you're getting a good deal on it and it looks flawless (no scratches, dings etc) and works flawless, then you should take the deal regardless. As soon as you use it it becomes used anyways

Hope it works out though. - 05-07-2010, 12:31 PM

It looks new....I guess for piece of mind. But Blackberry being such a hi-tech device, there should be a way to find out.
