You have a QWERTY keyboard on a QWERTZ phone. Nothing you can do. Sorry
    Device history: 8100 > 8320 > 9000 (brief) > 9530 (Ugh!) & 8900 > 8220 > 8120 > 8520 > 9550
    > 9000 > 9700 9650

Options > keyboard > keyboard layout.

Make sure it's set to QWERTY.

thats an option on touchscreen phones like the Storms and Torch for the virtual keyboard settings. non touch phones with a physical keyboard, like the 9700, are hard programmed for either QWERTZ or QWERTY layouts and cannot be changed with any setting.

Huh? I thought the problem is that the phone has a German keyboard or am I being sucked into someones sarcasm? If that is the case and nothing is wrong with the keyboard buying and replacing it with the same one does nothing but waste the OP's money.

No sarcasm. The link was for a qwertz keypad, which fixes the zy issue as the new key layout will reflect what's being typed (given that software can't fix the issue).

as stated, putting the proper QWERTZ keyboard back on the phone will reflect what the phone will actually type. since there is no way a QWERTZ phone will ever type QWERTY, theres no reason for a QWERTY keyboard to be on it. someone obviously replaced it.

if its a big deal to the OP, they can switch the keypad back, then sell the phone to someone who needs a QWERTZ phone. if not, they better get used to typing Z in order to get a Y, which will not only be confusing, but will also be a pain in the ****.
