which microsd works with 9700?
hey,
about to increase the size of the memory card for my BB 9700, though is there a special type and storage size it has to be? i know its a microsd but does it matter if i buy like a 32gb one? - 05-03-2012, 02:39 AM #3
i used a micro SD in mine when i had it, but i only used a 16GB. it can accept up to a 32GB.

The 9700 accepts 32GB SD cards? Does it actually recognize the entire 32GB or is it like using 8GB of RAM on a 32bit Vista machine and it only actually recognizing and using 3.5GB of it?
GSM Arena (BlackBerry Bold 9700 - Full phone specifications) lists the memory being expendable to 16GB, so I assumed that was all it would recognize. 32GB actually works and is utilized on the 9700? - 05-03-2012, 09:52 AM #6Do as you would be done by and 12 pence to the shilling (or 100 cents to the dollar).

My 32 gb in a 9700 registers as 29.7 total storage.

it does this because 32 bit Windows XP/7 can only address up to 4GB, 64 can address up to 192GB RAM. its just an OS restriction. the memory card in a BB is maxed out to 32GB so it should read the full 32GB. if you threw a 64GB card in it, i dunno if it would error out or just read the max of 32 GB.

When the 9700 was released, 32GB MicroSD cards were simply not availible to test when the hardware was new and being reviewed. Slowly the 32GB cards started becoming availible but were also very expensive (nearly costing as much or more than the retail price of the Bold 9700 ($550 without a contract subsidy) but now 32GB MicroSD HC cards are common as more point & shoot cameras started using MicroSD cards as well.
Worry not, the 32GB works fine in the 9700.BlackBerry PlayBook owner by choice along with my iPad 2, leave the hate for the underdog (RIM) at the door...

I picked this one up for my 9700:
FRYS.com 32gb Patriot Micro SD
Price went down a bit, I paid 29.
Works great!Frank M - 05-04-2012, 09:31 PM #14
I wish this forum had a dislike and un-thanks button.
I forgot that my phone is 3 years old and how quickly time has flown by. Many thanks for reminding me of the ever increasing rate at which time seems to be passing by.

But your post makes complete sense. Now that I know the SD card works, though, I'll have to pick one up.

OS5 or OS6, the 9700 has always fully supported a 32 gig micro SD card.
