Default Message icon redundant? Noob here.

When I receive an email I get a notification on my Email Message icon and on the Messages icon. Also, sms and mms have their own icon, so why have the Message Icon? I hate having to delete an email twice.
I looked through all the settings and I can't seem to find a solution.

All email will show up in your messages folder so I hide everything else. You can have also have your MMS and SMS messages show up in the message folder so everything will be in one folder. Select this under options under SMS/MMS

Messages > Options > Main Message List Settings > uncheck 'Email Accounts'

This way your emails will only be sent to your Email folder, and you'll only get one notification.

Just hide the Messages folder now

Thanks guys. I could not find an answer on any of the tutorials on this massive site.

I kind of like the idea of having every message in one icon.....Hmmm let me see how that works.

If you have more than one email account on your BB you will have a folder for each one. You might want to try what I do. I create a folder called MAIL and put ALL of the email folders in it. I also put Manage Internet Email & Saved Messages in the same folder. Then the only folder left on my mail screen is the Messages Folder. Once you read or delete the message from the messages folder the same action occurs in the respective folder. As far as SMS I combine them with the emails accounts and read them in the messages folder. This is done by going into the messages folder then into the options and look for SMS & Email Inboxes under General Options.

I hate having my main screen cluttered so I make various folders for those items I don't use everyday.

Greg, I can't find the option. I see an option for SMS and Email inboxes> Separate,Combined, Theme Controlled. What exactly am I looking for?

BX, I only have one email address. I will definitely follow your instructions if I decide to incorporate my other email address.

    Ditto.

I actually like having seperate icons for everything, I just hate having to goto messages just to stop my LED flashing.

Erm, you don't need to. I have the Messages icon, one for SMS, one for each of six email accounts, and the Gmail plugin. Delete from Messages and an email disappears from the individual account in question (and vice versa). Messages is just a catch all. You only ever need to delete/read/etc once.
