Default Latest OS5 for the 9700

I just bought a brand new 9700 ( after using a 9790 , I am back on this real solid blackberry ), and I was wandering which OS5 firmware to put on it.

the last AT&T version the built 1607 was made the 22 september of 2010

    ....9700M_PBr5.0.0_rel1607_PL5.1.0.177_A5.0.0.979_AT_amp_T.exe
    ....the radio/OS file is version 5.1.0.177 and size : 15 767 KB

there is the Docomo version the built 1655 was made the 26 october 2010

    ....9700jEastAsia_PBr5.0.0_rel1655_PL5.1.0.177_A5.0.0.1014.exe
    ....the radio/OS file is version 5.1.0.177 and size : 20 203 KB

very very strange the radio file with the same version number ( 5.1.0.177) got nearly 5 000 KB size increase for just some bug corrections, what is happening ??

And then exploring the various versions provided by the operators I found a 1786 build made the 25 August 2011 !

    ....9700M_PBr5.0.0_rel1786_PL5.1.0.178_A5.0.0.979.exe
....the radio/OS file is version 5.1.0.178 and size 15 788 KB

I think this will be the one for me ( I will never put a OS6 or hybrid on my 9700 ). If somebody can explain why the Docomo radio/OS is 5 meg bigger than the AT&T ?

Probable difference - All Langauge vs Multi or Asian. The more langauages, the larger the sfi.

I don't think so, if you run a string search in the sfi files, you see only american strings of text. when you compare the results of the search for the two files, you find list of terms as amazon, france2, ...
I really don't understand what is going on, but I will not put the big file in my device, 5 meg is always nice to spare some in the memory.

Yes, the difference is the multi-language v all language versions of the SFI file.

The jEastAsia SFIs are always at least 5 MB larger than the M SFIs, even in OS 6.

Thanks for this update, so the size is because of the jEastAsia.

the 9700M_PBr5.0.0_rel1786_PL5.1.0.178_A5.0.0.979.exe is just a newer version of the radio/OS without "all" languages

Technically the A5.0.0.1014 OS is the newest. What platform is newest would be PL5.1.0.178, but.....

Rare but not unusual for RIM to drop back a platform version, when they release a newer OS version, and never use the previous platform again (they would have a newer one written for future builds). Having two of the same application version (or bundle version), containing different platforms, would be incongruent with the system. There has to be a typo.

Technically, I will say that rel1786 made the 25th of August 2011 is the latest (build 1786 instead of build 1655 made the 26th of october 2010)
