Default Keyboard, track, no response from bb9700

Hi!

So lately, I like listening to music when I'm taking a shower. I never thought my bb would die from it.....But this week, a few buttons stopped working (I didn't shower with the bb, just put it on a dry spot, but when grabbing it, moisture must have gone in the phone). Just a few, though. Everything else worked fine, could do all normal things except typing went annoying cause of non functioning buttons.

So I installed bb os 6.0, in the hopes of it working again; it didn't.

A friend of mine said to hit the bb, and I did. Most buttons returned back to use!

But when I put the phone back in my pocket, and checked it after an half hour, I noticed the phone had shut down. So I pulled the battery and put it back in, and my keys stopped working! I've tried drying it, but nothing has helped. I tried hitting it again, but nothing helps.

My blackberry turns on, goes to the screen and everything. BUT I can't click on anything, not even the standby button. Can't typ in my pin to get in, just nothing.

So I thought of opening up the bb and checking out what's wrong with it internally, what should I be looking for?

Or, what can I do to get the keyboard fixed, because everything else just works, or so it seems? It boots. Strange thing: standby button isn't working, so what does that mean?

Please help!

BlackBerry devices do not like moisture.

Exposing the device to a steamy bathroom will definitely cause damage to the electrical contacts on the keypad and other switches.

Most likely the damage is already done, but look in the "How To" Forum about steps to take after your battery gets wet.

best bet would be the keyboard membrane that is toasted or at worst,
the motherboard already has been toasted. do you also got for example a qqqq wwww,
when you try to type? well i just guess your BB is already toasted by the moisture.
if were you i would try a new membrane if you are lucky it can work.
but hard to say, like you have said '' so it seems '' so i'm not sure about it.

I get why the keys arn't working, but why the standby button? That's not located anywhere near the keyboard (I use the button at the top of the phone).

well maybe it's damaged because of the moisture that went in the phone?
ahw this reminds me of my 9700 which i dropped twice in the shower!
i always listened to music on it in the shower, but it's still working!

Guys!!! I got something for you to work with:

I put my phone on the window sill yesterday (after the perhaps the millionth time of trying the battery pull, with no luck at all, no keyboard working), and I just let it stay there. It's pretty cold outside, so the phone is getting colder. I put the battery in a drawer.

I put my battery back in today in hope of it working again....Guess what! The keys work again!

Only one problem! The 'p' button is malfunctioning, because it types 'p' all the time, without me clicking on it. So basically the phone is spamming 'p'. I just pulled the battery again and put the phone it at the sill again, and the battery in my drawer again.

I had the 'p' problem before, quit annoying. I think the membrane is buggy or something?

I'm so glad I have hope again. If my phone works again, I'm going to be super careful with it.

So what now? How do I get it to stop spamming 'p'?

I am curious though; why is the keypad working again somewhat?

it's a moisture problem ..... it will eventually stop working in the future (I'm a blackberry technician so I have vast experience with BBzz ) ..... you should've taken it to a reputable repair centre for them to try and sort it out or best give you advice . Look at it this way, if your car is giving you problems, you take it to the mechanic right? Orrrrr you let the problem multiply itself?

Moisture + Electronics = eventual death of device somewhere down the road

Well, I'm going to try at the very least.

Need to wait until I can buy the screwdriver to open up my bb.

Anyone?

Everything is working again, except the 'p' key is spamming, which is making navigating really hard, almost impossible.

Solution?

Moisture damage typically is not repairable. You likely have corrosion on the keypad contacts.

Well, the keyboard isn't working again, happened when I plugged it in the charger.

I'm going to wait a while and buy the necessary tools to open the bb.

Well the bb is back to working again! Hope it stays that way.

Only problem: 'p' button isn't working, and the shortcut for camera isn't working either. They're both near each other, so possibly something in the phone.

So I ripped of the 'p' button and everything is working perfectly again.
