I'm sorry, I'm a n00b, but I need this explained

I got my dad's old work blackberry working a few months ago, and I just updated facebook on it, and the options for sync with calendar and sync with contacts are greyed out. I have seen a bunch of stuff about it being BES, or some thing for if it was a work blackberry.

He worked at TD bank in Canada, and he bought the phone directly from them. He called the IT guys and they apparently unlocked the phone for him, and then I jailbroke it from Rogers, and I am currently using a Fido sim card.

I still can't update the OS to 5.0.0.862 (currently running 5.0.0.531), could this be related?

You can't "jailbreak" a blackberry.
Search these options ; How to remove IT policy, then after that's done, search : How to install OS
