Thanks for the poster who mentioned this!

Shame on me for not scrubbing the threads prior to getting the 9700. Here I sit with a 3 day old, twice replaced Bold with a top-left-leaning wobbly trackpad.

I'm good with fixing it this way...I mean h3ll, I jump out of planes and blow stuff up for a living right.......but I do have a question/concern........

What is this loose bezel, branded piece that wobbles if the tabs aren't straight thingy? Is fixing one issue guaranteed to cause another? Just doing my full recon before I commence the wobble fix assault.

Okay well the wobble is much better/almost gone, mine still leans/sinks into the top left corner though... I think it's because of the way the thing under the trackpad is designed, it's circular then there's a dip in the top left corner... I'm thinking of just cutting a few more "pizza slices" of Scotch tape and putting a few more layers just on that corner.

I guided a very thin, sliver of electrical tape behind my trackpad with a needle. I held my trackpad to one side, fed the tape in the other side with the needle, pushing it down gently so that I didn't scratch the pad or buttons. I let go of the trackpad and the trackpad moved back to the center and now it doesn't wobble at all...

I did that with my first Bold, that I had to later replace because the speaker died. The replacement Bold I received, via the Best Buy Black Tie, was perfect, no wobble. Then I bought the Torch on launch day, returned it two weeks later to get a 9700 back only to get another wobbly trackpad. This time I opened it up, put some folded cling wrap in the trackpad cavity of the main board of the phone and now the trackpad sits up perfectly with no wobble.

Since you've done this a few times, what is this issue with the loose bottom after you take the phone apart? Tape on the tabs I hear?

Thanks.

Thanks man!

I got mine fixed today!

I would only suggest not to take steps shown on pics 3 and 4, you can easily get it done right after you take the keyboard off... just lift the trackpad and put a couple of layers underneath. For mine 3 layers worked just fine!

Thanks once again!

I have tried with a new trackpad and it was just the same as with the old one. This solution with the tape is the best for now. Worked for me very well! Try it yourself... don't even have to dismantle the whole device, jut a half way this guy did. "Once the chrome is off then there are 4 screws that need to be undone" - Not really.. once you take off the chrome and the keypad you will have access to the trackpad which can easily be lifted at this point, enough to stick a couple of layers underneath it.

Good luck!

Actually it wouldn't be Qualcomm for any GSM phones because you have to consider that Qualcomm is a CDMA cetrification company so they would be assembling the CDMA variants of the phones Eg. the differences between the 8300-8320 and the 8330 in physical appearence (Location of Indicator light etc.)
