HELP!!! SOS Mode Stuck On TMobile 9700
I use UMA/Wi-Fi at home because I don't get reliable reception in my house. I have a T-Mobile Router and have been doing this for months now. A little over a month ago my office upgraded me to the Bold 9700 and this was still connecting without a problem at home.
All of a sudden this past Friday whenever I'm home it's in SOS mode and will once in awhile go back to Edge for a couple seconds then back to SOS. This happened once before on my Curve 8330, but they replaced the Sim card and I started using the T-mobile router to fix it.
I've already confirmed Tmobile isn't having any issues in my area, they've replaced the sim card, my actual wi-fi is working without a problem and the phone will connect to it. It will only find an AT&T 2G signal when i try the manual network switch and thus stays in sos mode. As soon as I leave the house it immediately finds tmobile towers and I have fully 3G service. Tmobile hasn't been able to help at all and it's made my phone completely useless when at home. I'm incredibly frustrated and would welcome any help!!!!!!!!! - 04-22-2010, 08:29 AM #2
Did you try unplugging your router for 30 seconds, and then plugging it back in???

Yup, have tried unplugging both the modem and router so they are reset. The internet is working fine. It will actually even connect to the wi-fi and the browser works fine, but i can't make any calls or use text messaging at all. It won't pick-up any tmobile networks, but according to them there are no issues in my area.

Did you try rebooting your BB??? And by rebooting, I mean a Battery Pull: Leave your device ON, pull the battery out for 20 seconds, put the battery back in and wait for your device to boot up.

yuppers...several battery pulls. attempted manual network changes, even attempted following directions for pointing directly to different ports for UMA (cleared all that back out when it didn't help). nothing is working.
no matter what i do it can't seem to find tmobile when i'm at home and the phone or texting features won't work at all when in sos...it doesn't go into uma/wi-fi like it's supposed to. - 04-22-2010, 10:19 AM

i've seen a lot about different os versions...i'm still on .330, but since my phone is through work and an exchange server i don't think i'm able to update the os myself if i wanted to (at least i couldn't when i had the curve 8520).
could this be where my problem is? - 04-22-2010, 10:32 AM #7
Lets put it this way. If you have possession of the phone, You can wipe it and install any os you like. However, if it is setup through an exchange server and if it was issued by the company you work for, you should probably talk to tech support there and see what they can do.
Computers can be fickle creatures, they can work for days/months/years without issue and then all of sudden things go wonky, (yes wonky is a technical term) without you having done or changed anything. It's just the way it is with technology. Either way, I would say your easiest/best solution would be to reinstall the os.Last edited by rdyoung; 04-22-2010 at 10:34 AM.

damn i had a feeling someone was going to suggest that. going through my IT dept...i have a better chance of winning the lottery than getting them to be helpful!
Soooo seems I'm left on my own with this one. Any recommendations on the OS version and where to easily get it? Since I am going through an exchange server are there any issues I should plan on running into after i make the change with being able to get my email and all the other fun stuff? - 04-22-2010, 11:02 AM #9
I believe, with a proper backup and install, the access info needed to work with the exchange server should be back on the device.
I would backup the phone with DM and with BBSAK, that way you know your covered, and make more than 1 copy of the backup, it may seem like too much but you will be glad you did.
I would suggest going with 593, it seems rock solid. There is a link in this forum for it. - 04-22-2010, 12:49 PM

If you have full 3G as soon as you leave the house and get no signal at home, you may be getting interference at home. There is an old ham radio trick you can try that's been used for years to determine if RF interference is homegrown or external. It's a bit of a pain in the rear if you have a lot of clocks to reset, but try turning off the main breaker to your house for a few minutes. If you suddenly find you have a signal at home again, then the fun of finding out which of your other electronic devices is causing it begins. You do that by unplugging every item, one at a time. Hope it's as simple as this

Ok, so I'm having this problem AGAIN!!! Last time I ended up wiping out my Tmobile hot spot router and recreating my network. It's been working great since then without any problems at all. As of 3 or 4 days ago we're back to SOS mode at home and working fine everywhere else.
Obviously I could wipe the router again, but is there anything anyone else can think of? The Router works fine for the internet so it's definitely something having to do with the phone connection to it and not going into UMA.
I'm now on OS .586, but everything else is the same. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! - 06-25-2010, 08:58 PM #15
Do you have security set up on your router? If not, someone might be junking your settings. Also, are the other devices connected to your router connected to WiFi or physically connected? If the hard reset of the router worked before, I'd do it again. It only takes about two minutes to restore the settings.

Well since .714 is now the latest official T-Mobile 9700 OS, maybe update to that and see what happens... 714 works MUCH better for me than 586 did...

Sounds to me like something is interfering with your network...I have the same issue and constantly have to unplug my router for 60 seconds, plug back in and is fine for a few days. Computer even says something is interfering with my network, but can't figure out what it is.
I am fine with unplugging/plugging back in the router for now, but does test my patience at times...might be the same issue you have as me, but I have never not been able to make calls or what not while on UMA like you, so I don't know.
Best of luck to ya!
