Exclamation Help Please! - Backup of messages failing

I just received a new Bold 9780 to replace my 9700 that I've upgraded to 6.0.0.418. I'm trying to make a full backup of my data, including my mail messages. However, the backup process gets about halfway through my messages backup and fails. Yesterday when I tried it I got the following error:
    ---------------
All data was not backed up
Some data is not included in the backup file.
    Data Type Entries
    Messages 759/1110
    ---------------

I tried later in the day and it failed at the same point (Messages 759/1190).

I tried again today and now it fails like it did yesterday, though I now get the following error:

    ---------------
There was an error backing up.
There could have been a problem with the device or connection during the backup. Verify that the device is turned on and connected.
    ---------------

While the backup is running the phone's screen is black with the data transfer icons displayed. As soon as I get the failure error the phone screen returns to where it was prior to running the backup (in this case the home screen).

I also tried using the Switching Devices wizard in DM and it failed at the point where it was backing up the messages with the following error:

    ---------------
    Switching Devices
The loader was unable to fully back up the following device databases:
[Messages] 0 of 1291 entries retrieved.
Do you wish to continue with the loading process?
    ---------------

Any idea how I can fix this problem? I tried - as best as possible - identifying what would have been the messages around the 759 mark but don't see anything unusual. I HAVE been able to successfully complete a Quick (exclude email) backup and Custom backup (again, when excluding the Messages option).

Also, I do recall that I had a similar problem about two and a half weeks ago when I upgraded to 418. When I performed my backup it informed me that not all of my messages got backed up. I assumed it at least backed up the majority of them, but when I restored the backup it didn't include any email messages.

I have performed a hard reset, and cleared my event logs, but without any luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm anxious to move on to the 512MB goodness of my 9780 but don't want to leave the last few weeks' worth of messages behind.

    Thanks!

    Hi there.

Do a battery pull and see how it works. Try to backup using BBSAK and DM. Seems like it stuck at the message.

Try exclude the message backup and see if that works

    Hope this helps a little.

Thanks reginald. I did a battery pull with no luck. Will BBSAK allow you to backup just your data (messages)? DM is what's failing. I was able to exclude the messages and the backup worked, but I'm trying to get my messages to come with me on my new device (I have tons of unread stuff that I want to put on my new device).

    Thanks.

1,110 messages, for reals? I don't think you will fix this problem. My opinion. Maybe we all just learned what the limit is. With that many messages there may not be enough memory left but, you could download FileScout and archive the messages one by one to the SD card. Also, do what reginald sugested, try backing up with BBSAK. Good luck.

I just skip the backing up of messages and everything works seemlessly. Also, I skipped backing up other things I didn't need at all to make for a smaller backup file. Anything that has at least 1 record is backed up, anything with 0 is skipped. I also skipped Content Store, as it used up 12MB.

Hmm, maybe so. That's just 2 1/2 weeks worth (and over Christmas even!). I haven't had problems backing up in the past and probably have had at least as many messages on my device. But with OS6 on the 9700 (only 256 MB of RAM) there may not be enough to process the backup. Not sure that I have actually fully backed up my device with that many messages since upgrading to OS6.

If I use BBSAK which COD do I back up to get my messages? Are the app databases stored as CODs? I see the net_rim_bb_email.cod listed. Is that the app and data or just the app? Sorry for all the questions.

But you're right, the larger problem is that I get way too much email. I've been trying to tell my boss that for two years now. :-)

aznlgcy, I tried flushing my browser cache and it didn't help. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I think I might just have to leave the messages off and resort to going to my laptop for my older messages I need. Nothing seems to be working at this point to get the backup to work.
