Default HELP: Password issue (no I didn't forget it I swear)...

Hello All,

Long time lurker new poster.

I have a blackberry that has a keylock password and encryption. Yesterday I started getting the password wrong. Funny I usually get it right the first time. I battery pull my phone, type my password and I'm good.

I go to work today, probably unlocked my phone a dozen times no issue.

Then tonight again getting wrong password, battery pull and managed to unlock my phone. So I googled around figuring this is probably a stupid bug in the O/S.

Now I cannot seem to unlock it, even with multiple battery pulls. I got up to 6/10 tries and the type blackberry thing came on so I realized what happened. Everytime I put in the letter "l" which is the last letter in my password it turns to "lg" in the preboot password I can see everytime I press "l" g is then pressed.

So I googled some more, and found the blackberry fourms telling people they should "think hard, and make sure their password is correct". Well I connected it to my computer and got the password right the first time.

However after I enter the password it tells me the device is encrypted and I need to enter the password on the phone, which I cannot do.

I havn't backed up for a few weeks, and I recently added some new contacts. grrrrr

I've tried messing with CAPS/ALT/NUM and can't get it to work. Any work arounds? I keep my phone in pretty good shape but am thinking that maybe a key is stuck? Is this perhaps auto correct screwing me over? How can I disable it considering I can't get into the phone.

PLEASE HELP, I have a bunch of unanswered BBM's and this problem has ruined my evening.

edit: I spoke with a friend, he says it's probably mosture on the board. Does that sound right? This has actually been happening in the evening when I leave the gym, and I carry my phone in the gym. So i'm guessing some moisture from my sweat must be up in there causing multiple keys to be pressed. Anyone agree with this theory?

So I managed to get into my device with some careful use of the highlight and backspace key.

I updated the os to the .666 build and am still having this issue.

If keys are stuck, it would be very strange since there are multiple keys where if I press one key 2 keys emerge.

I've disabled auto correct, have predictive off. Now I can't even type an e-mail.

grrr whats going on, I really don't have the time to wipe my phone tonight

Your trips to the gym can deffinately cause keys to fail, a Friend of mine had similar problems just last week. My advice remove ur password if u do a wipe later.

Yep. Definitely sounds like moisture damage on the keypad contacts which is causing the wrong letter to be entered.

I suggest Letting it sit to dry without the battery connected and then for future make sure the sweat is wiped off you before the damage gets any worse. I make sure to do so with my blackberry and other devices. Water damage is a very bad thing.

Thanks everyone for their replies. I really appreciate it.

I've had to remove my password (in fears of not being able to use my phone). Today the typing was on and off. For a few hours of the day it was perfect. Then next time I use it, I can't put together even a brief txt message without confusing errors. I'm pretty good at using alt and back space, highlighting the incorrect letters and fixing errors. However it's still nearly impossible to compose a solid text let alone any bbm convo. Even the dictionary can't put decent matches

Currently the phone is in tupperware lying face first in rice and 1 silca gel packet, which is all I could find around the house.

Would someone taking apart my phone and cleaning it help at all? I went to one shop but all they did was try and sell my a used phone.

Any other tips for drying this sucker out is appreciated. I'm hoping after a few days it will be back to normal. Otherwise its a nice $550 kick in the nuts for a new 9900.

Well it's the last time I take my phone into the gym. I just carried this thing in my pocket while doing some cardio and weights. I don't sweat excessivly, but yeah I'm there often. oh well lesson learned.

It's sitting in rice and the gel pack without the battery connected to it right? Also make sure it's vented every so often and kept in a warm, or hot place where stuff usually dries easily.

correct, battery disconnected. I assume room temperature is okay?

Yeah I open the tupperware ocassionaly, so I can turn on my phone to see my missed msgs and bbms.

I feel so disconnected

Thanks again for the help everyone. I suppose I could just fork over the money for an upgrade but the 9700 is sort of all I need atm. The 9900 is nice and all but meh.

Letting it sit for 48 hours (two days) without the battery connected would be grand. Then there will be no further risk of water or other internal damages, such as shorting of circuitry. I know what it feels like.

Same issue here!
When i woke up, i tried to enter my password (wich is my gf's name, so i think it's not hard to remember that ). still sleepy and noticing i was trying for some times, i noticed after 6 times i was wrong. So i looked close and tried to enter it again. The phone said it was incorrect but stayed at 6 times failure. Did a battery pull and guess what... everything whiped and had no recent backup. Really made my day;
Now this happend about 2 weeks ago and never occured again. But still it's strange
