gmail issues when paired with bluetooth

I'm having an issue that's driving me crazy, and I can't figure out how to solve it. When I pair my 9700 (os6) to my vehicle, my gmail notification starts going off for every email I've received since the last time they were paired. Every few seconds, I get a new email notification for emails that have already been opened, but only from one contact. I have to re open each email, or wait until the notifications finally stop and hit mark as read. Has anyone experienced anything similar to this?

Have you tried deleting the contact and then manually recreated it after a while to test and see if it keeps going about the same redundent notification?
