Flashing a 9700 to run on verizon
I abandoned my 9700 and T-Mobile in favor of Verizon and the Storm 2 and better service. However, I do strongly miss my 9700 and do not wanna put the money on a 9650. I had a friend who is very much a tech nerd tell me last nite that he has a program that will flash a gsm phone to work on a CDMA network, therefore making my 9700 operable on VZW. Does anyone else have any insight into this?

I'm sure there are other posts here, but this is the 1st one I found. - 08-07-2010, 01:21 PM #3
It is bogus. The 9700 does not have the hardware (radio) to work on a CDMA network. No software will change that fact.

Flashing a GSM phone to Verizon cannot be done. As has already been said, it's a hardware issue, not a software. If this were a software issue, then yes, flashing the phone would work or if going from one GSM carrier to another, all you'd need to do would be swap SIMs.

Tell your friend he doesn't know jack. And I wouldn't trust his tech "advice" anymore.

Thanks for the input. I searched and didn't see that other post. Guess it hit buried. I argued with the guy for a bit in it because I knew it was impossible. He was just so convinced I gave up. If I had had my 9700 with me I woulda put his knowledge to the test. But I figured I'd ask around on Crackberry just to make sure that I really wasn't the crazy one. Appreciate the help.
