dropped my bold in my beer
so i dropped my 3 month old 9700 in my beer at a concert.. quickly took it out and apart. put each piece in a seperate pocket and put it back together 6-8 hours later. phone works great except when texting, if i hit a letter sometimes it'll add another random letter or 2. so when i type "yeah" i'll get something like "yoehawwh" and sometimes when i hit backspace it will send the message. although this seems to be going away.
i've been readiong on this site for quite sometime and i know about the WDI stickers. the one on the battery is white. the one on the phone is red. so i believe i am screwed to take it to best buy for my insurance claim. could i use whiteout?? lol
any advice on how to solve my problem would be greatly appreciated. i believe it's too late for the rice method as it has been about 24 hours since the incident. - 03-07-2010, 10:34 PM #2
take it apart and check if there is any residue under your keypad. if your warranty is messed you might as well take it apart and clean what you can. beer is ten times worse than water.

Hmmm. Could be a new Hank Williams song. "There's a Bold in my beer."

Vouch this but if you have insurance it doesnt matter what happened to the phone but you will have to pay a premium to get a new device. i wouldnt suggest using white out. lol but i would suggest if you dont want to pay the premium on an insurance claim or if u even want to try to avoid it. Take it apart and try cleaning it up theres plenty of videos on how to take it apart and how to put it back together just take your time good luck solving your problem man sorry to hear about your phone though

I'd say that's a party foul. However, you might want to stick the phone in a ziplock bag with about a cup of dry rice for a day or two. Should suck out all the water.
As for altering warranty stickers, witeout probably won't do the trick; I'd suggest replacing the whole thing.

Ha...ha...ha... much as I feel for you dropping your brand new Bold into the beer, I think your bold was rather drunk when it decided to add the characters as you typed!! No hard feelings...but I find it quite amusing and I just had to have a dig :-)

There's a Bold in my beer
I was dialin' for you, dear
You are on my empty screen
Into these last nine beers
My handset dropped I fear
You are on my empty screen
I'm gonna keep textin'
Until I'm petrified,
And then maybe this white screen
Will leave my cryin eyes
There's a Bold in my beer
cause I'm textin' for you dear
You are on my empty screen
Last night I walked the floor
And the night before
You are on my empty screen
It seems my life is through
And I'm so doggone blue
You are on my empty screen
I'm gonna keep textin'
Till I can't press a key
And then maybe my thumbs
Won't hurt me so
There's a Bold in my beer
Cause I'm dialin' for you dear
You are on my empty screen
Lord, I've tried and I've tried
But my loss I can't abide
You are on my empty screen
All these iPhones that I've found
Have really got me down
You are on my empty screen
I'm gonna keep textin'
Till I can't even think
Cause in the last week
I ain't slept a wink
There's a Bold in my beer
And I'm crying for you dear

had it in rice overnight. seems to work fine now, got lucky. although my SMS froze up on me and i got an exception message. i'll take it over to best buy tomorrow and see if im still covered even tho the sticker is red. no point in paying for insurance i can't use.

the op definitely should have taken a backup phone to that concert. just imagine how large that crowd was. there could have been so many ways that op could have damaged caused to his bb other than a swim in beer. never have any drink/food close by your bb when drinking or eating. you should just put it away when your doing those activities.also put it away, when you go potty. lol.

in my defense. at 24 years old i can't afford another "backup phone." if i was always worried about what could happen to my phone and used an older one instead. then i wouldnt really be able to use itall that much. in which case, what would be the point of buying it in the first place. thinking like that would be my vehicle which is only one of 220 ever biult would do nothing but sit in a garage..
alright rant over. so even tho it works you guys suggest i shoudl still try the alcohol dip? - 03-09-2010, 04:02 AM #24The lesson we learned from iPhone: People who can't walk and chew gum at the same time don't need a phone that can multitask...nobody likes a phone to be smarter than they are
