Different trackpad issue - unresponsiveness?
Hi folks,
I received my Bold for Christmas and have read all about the wobbly trackpad before. Concerning that matter all I can say, mine does not wobble. Lucky me, I guess. However, I noticed a certain unresponsiveness on the left-hand side of the trackpad. This applies both to my as well as to my girlfriend's device so I guess it must be normal to some degree. Could you still check your BOld quickly, though?
If you slide your finger over the trackpad coming from the right-hand side the device registers this as a movement almost instantly, almost before you actually touch the trackpad area (best seen in the menu screen). When you do the same thing coming from the left-hand side, though, you have to have covered almost have of the trackpad's distance until the command registers. I first noticed this in a browser where I wanted to scroll down and my finger touched the trackpad on the very left-hand side und it just refused to scroll down.
Season's greetings and thanks for sharing,
Winter

Mine seems a bit more responsive going right to left than left to right. You almost have to have your finger planted in the center of the pad for instant left to right movement. Also don't worry the track pad will "wobble up" after a few weeks of usage.

No issues with mine and I am left-handed. I never thought about this so scrolled up and down, R to L and L to R all four borders of trackpad. No noticeable difference for me.

Thanks a lot everybody so far. So, two people who share the issue and two who apparently don't. Any more date highly appreciated. Thanks a lot for contributing further.

It most likely has to do with the direction the LED is pointing outwards. It has to come out, reflect back down and is read by the detector; my guess is the LED is on the left side of the pad and the detector on the right, and so motion from the left as u describe is not registered as accurately.
If ure confused as to how the trackpad works I believe RIM had a page on it explaining it that was posted on the CB blog a while ago.

This might also be in relation on whether you are a left-handed or right-handed. Remember that even though you don't seem to notice it, your preferred hand is always applying a greater force in work than your other hand.
It may seem as the trackpad is unresponsive when you are using your other hand but the truth is your favored hand has only applied more force than the other. Just my 2 cents...

It surely has nothing to do with whether I am left-handed or right-handed since I also conducted the test with the device flipped upside down und a different finger altogether. dLO GSR, what you write makes p e r f e c t sense to me (especially since my 2nd device reacts in exactly the same fashion). However, I am still confused since then everybody should encounter the same phenomenon?

I don't have that issue.
You should go to a store and check out the demo to see if your issue is normal or not.
And make sure you thoroughly inspect a replacement before leaving the store.iTouch & EVO 4G - 12-27-2009, 12:45 PM

Any more reports would be highly welcome, thank you very much. If this is indeed an issue caused by the way the trackpad is constructed surely everyone should experience it and the differences could only be accounted for by differing perceptions between different individuals???
So please do post how your device reacts. Please note though that the difference is only subtle.
