    Default Device mem and photos

    Hey all,

I just upgraded to os6 and the photos in my device memory are gone! Mind you, I did a full device update prior to upgrading.

    1. Would the photos be in that backup file?
    2. If I were to install selected things only in DM, what would I be selecting?

    Thanks.

    1. The photos might not be in the backup file if they are preset photos in ROM.

    2. It all depends on what you want to add or remove. I wouldn't remove anything I didn't know about or what would happen if it was removed.

    Root,
Thanks for the quick response. I shouldve been more clear, I had no memory card for a bit so they're photos I took with the cam.

Any idea if those would be included in the backup?

It's a possibility. If they aren't, you are out of luck.

    What's that?

When you created the backup file in DM 6 (DM 5 doesn't backup device memory, at least I don't think so) did you check the box that says "Include: Files saved to my built-in storage?"

If not, then the photos that were on it were deleted when you wiped the device. If so, then you should be able to back them up, but I have no idea what it would say for the database, maybe "media" or "built in storage" or something along those lines.

Thats why I always put my photos on my computer lol and take them off the phone, so they don't get lost.

Good question. Is that option preselected and I would have to uncheck the box? Or is it unchecked and I have to physically check it?

If you're asking that question then your pics are gone...

The first time you performed a backup with DM 6 it gives you all these options on what you want the backup to do and not do, that setting is there. Did you do any of that when you first downloaded and used DM 6? If it didn't ask you when you just did the backup recently then you've done it before and also checked a box that says something like "always use these settings for backing up device" or something like that.

Any way you look at it you're SOL. Here's what you need to look at for future use.

    Plug your phone in
    Run DM 6
Click "Device Options" next to the "Backup" button
Click the "Backup" tab and look over your options and settings for when you create a backup file

I agree if your photos were on your blackberry and not the memory card then when you restored the data they should have appeared. The fact that they didn't most likely means their gone. DM 6 has a lot of media sync options which cater to memory cards and not photos and music on the phone so photos on the phone can be easily lost if your not careful.

Thanks for the input. I don't backup fairly often and I've never really had photos on the device. Just this once. But when I did the restore from the file I just selected calendars, sms, email, and calendar. Was just wondering if there was a separate option for device photos when restoring.
