Default Could be a stupid question!

As far as I understand the bb model number corresponds with the network type it works on, correct? So a 9700 on rogers, is the same network type as a 9700 on Bell Aliant, they are just locked to that carrier. So my friend that is on Rogers can get a 9700 from a friend that is on Bell Aliant, unlock it, and use it on Rogers.
I just want to clarify before he goes and gets the phone.
Thanks

You can always let him get the IMEI and check:

Will my mobile phone or smartphone work on the Bell network?

Yes and no. Yes in the cases of the 9900 or 9930 for example. Same phone, but different networks, but the 9810 for example is both 9810 on AT&T and T-Mobile, yet, you won't get 3G on both with the same phone.

So, check the carriers radios, then buy accordingly.
