complaints about my 9700
Well after having my 9700 a week I have a few gripes. I'm just curious if anybody else is experiencing these same issues.
1. Trackpad leaning to the top left. I've seen on here pretty much every device is like this and it doesn't bother me too much.
2. Trackpad just simply doesn't work sometimes after the phone being idle for a while. I put the phone on my night stand to charge when I sleep and every morning since I've had it except one I have had to restart the phone to get the trackpad working again. This is my number one complaint about the phone and I imagine it is an OS issue not necessarily an issue with the trackpad or the device.
3. This is an OS 5.0 issue, but several applications that use the internet to update, like facebook, myspace, ubertwitter, poynt, viigo, cause the phone to lag severely while updating. I had the same issue on my 9000 on 5.0 as well, but had no problems with these apps slowing down the device on 4.6. It gives me nightmares of the media card scanning for 30 minutes on 4.6. I'm sure devs will get it worked out soon, as 5.0 is officially just a few weeks old.
4. I HATE the new charge port. I know I know its more reliable and doesn't come out as easily as the old one, but its a pain in the **** to put in, especially in the car.
5. Another OS issue, but when scrolling through ringtones in profiles, or changing the alarm sound, the scrolling is a bit laggy, again I had the same issue on my 9000 running 5.0, but not on 4.6.
6. The speaker isn't as good as the 9000. It sounds kind of tinny and isn't as loud.
If there is anybody reading this who is on the fence of whether or not to make the jump to the 9700, I in no way regret my purchase. The only real issues with the phone are OS related and will be worked out like they always are. The browser is still no iphone, but compare it to a blackberry of a year ago, or heaven help us, two years ago, and you won't be able to believe its still a blackberry browser. Sure no fancy new features on the browser, but it just works better and faster than it used to, and it continues to get better. The 256mb ram is really sweet. I have like 25 apps running and still have just under 100mb free. My 9000 would have burst into flames under that kind of stress. The camera is awesome, it even takes passable video. And looks, this phone it truly beautiful, you don't really see it until you hold it, pictures just don't do it justice. The keypad has like a matte finish, unlike the 9000's glossy finish, so your fingers feel the buttons more distinctly and don't slide around as easily.

Trackpad is solid. Anyone reading the title of the post might be more cautious in their purchase decision. Return the device if the trackpad really bothers you and be more vigilant with the replacement in checking for build issues before you leave the store. Get an OEM or Seidio charging pod at the office and home. It will give the USB port a break. The USB port is an update to the one on the 9000.

You guys are nerds who complain too much. My trackpad leans to the top left, but I don't care. I haven't noticed any lagging, in fact I'm really impressed with how quick it is. Then again, I came from the Curve 8300.. so what do I know?
The only part of your post that I liked was the BB praise at the end. - 12-01-2009, 11:07 AM #6
Picky, picky, picky. It's a track pad it's suppose to move. If it don't move it won't work. Just my opinion. I think the phone is dynamite. Does it have little quirks, sure, theyn all do. It will get worked out very quickly. Just use the darn thing and quit beinbg overly paranoid.

Mine has a slight creak/squeaky feel when I hole the phone with my left hand. Just does not feel as solid as my old 9000 however still love the device. Might take mine back to see about the weak feeling it has toward the bottom. Anyone have the same feeling when holding? Or that there's light bleeding from the left edge's around the screen? Yes I know I should search more lol.

Perfect here...These complaints kill me. I complained about 3 storm 2 s going bad with defective screens but this stuff is so minor.
BOLD 9900 and....iphone 4S! Love them both!!! - 12-01-2009, 12:59 PM #15
I'm on my second 9700 and after a week my trackpad is starting to wiggle.
But NO, its NOT supposed to wiggle. If it was SUPPOSED to wiggle it'd do so out of the box. It wiggles and tilts because the mechanism WEARS DOWN under even moderate usage and is hence a crappy mechanism. - 12-01-2009, 01:26 PM #16

I am returning mine but not because any of the issues I have seen are common. I don't mind the trackpad leaning to the top left. Although mine is not wobbly. I don't mind the slight light leak around the BB and back buttons. I LIKE the battery door being hard to remove.
My issue is the LCD is crooked. The screen is crooked and is turned counterclockwise a little. I measured distance from top of LCD at left and right up to the black piece above the screen and it's off by about 0.8mm (I used calipers!) It may not seem like a lot but it's noticeable and very annoying when reading on the screen. I showed it to 2 people and both noticed it too.
I paid full price ($449) so I am just doing a plain return and waiting for a new batch/shipment maybe after the holidays. Honestly I'm annoyed by T-Mo's lack of ability to return/exchange in-store for an online purchase, which other carriers will let you do. Maybe next time I'll buy in store. Can you do a full price purchase in store? - 12-01-2009, 07:59 PM #20
im having just one issue that annoys the **** out of me, i have a ringtone setup for everyone in my phonebook so when i get a call as soon as i remove it from the holster, it changes to the Tgingle ringtone.... thats weird, anyone having this issue?

Wow, I'm not experiencing any of what you mentioned. Let me guess, you're using the same stock OS. I'm not negating any of your claims but these all sound like an upgrade would perhaps alleviate most if not all of your issues. You've identified the OS issues yourself, why not upgrade??

I too love my 9700, with one exception
I've had the 970 for two weeks now. Tremendous improvement over my Curve. I live in the sticks and tether with it.
My problem lies w/ the browser (which may make it an OS issue??).
I build websites for a living and most of the sites I've built in the past 6 months don't render in the browser. I can see they're loaded, but no art, words, links or anything.
No option within browser settings for CSS.
Perhaps one of you kind souls can look at one of my sites & let me know if you see the same problem. [ www.crookedcreekfarmdairy.com ]
It's probably my code, but for now I'm going to blame the browser.
Cheers!
