Cheaply made 9700 ?
I have recently bought a 9700. as soon as I opened the box the trackpad was loose. Wobbly. Whatever you will call it. How the silver or crome outer ring is rattling. I have never dropped it. Did I recieve a poorly made 9700 or is this fairly natural ?

Both "normal" issues for 9700, but that doesn't mean they have to (or, should be) acceptable by the end user. The bezel creaks slightly around right convenience key and my trackpad definitely wobbles; neither bothers me.

Mines is a rock, nothing loose or rattling. Exchange it if it's really brothering you.

Yup the wobble is normal, some are just worse than others. If it bothers you you can return it for a new one, but chances are it wont be that much of a difference.
As far as the creeking goes, haven't experienced that yet, maybe give it a couple days to settle after some heavy use. - 05-07-2010, 06:19 PM #7
^^ Yep. I guess I got lucky, but I've never gotten BB including this bold with any of the issues I read about. You paid good money for it, make sure you get one you're gonna be happy with.

Mine is as well built as any of my 20 or so previous Berries-maybe you just got a lemon, idk.

The bezel on the right side is "openable" for me. Like I can seperate it from the screen. It's kinda freaky, but it's not bothering me.
Anybody find the screen really fragile? Like if I put pressure on the side of the screen near the keys, and let go, these ripples go across that area that I presses on. I've never had this problem with any phones before. Is this normal?Don't have a data plan like me? Check this thread out! - 05-07-2010, 06:51 PM #10
My last one was pretty good too. Until the "p" key fell off. Just got my warranty
exchange today and it's pretty solid. - 05-07-2010, 06:55 PM #11
I've had my Bold for 3 months and it's as solid now as the day I bought it, I don't know how you bought your phone, but I go right to the main store & I don't open the box, the sales person does, but not everyone has a store close. I know if something was wrong with my phone I would return it right away. Nothing on my phone wobbles, squeeks, or is loose, it's perfect.

My trackpad is wobbly. And the top two standby/mute buttons are mushy. I thought it was supposed to be that way until I saw my friend's 9700. Tight trackpad, clicky top buttons. It would have been nice to get a unit like that but not a huge deal.

That's the only thing that I question about the Bold 9700 is the build quality. I had one and there was light coming from a separation on the right side by the camera button. Also, the keyboard backlight was really dim. My trackpad wasn't thay wobbly, but it did lean toward the top. Its one of the reasons why I prefer the trackball. I have the tour now and it is more solidly built than the 9700. I'm not saying it is a better device overall, I'm just saying that the hardware is more solid.

I don't think Berry's are as solidly made as they used to be, which is sad. I got mine shortly after release and had a wobbly, leaning trackpad and creaky bezel by the camera convenience key. I fixed both of those myself and its tight as a drum now and I've heard that later batches don't have as many issues. Get a replacement if you can and if it bothers you.

Just to update my previous post, I received my replacement on Friday and it seems
to be pretty good. I don't look into that "wobbly" trackpad thing because quite
frankly they're all gonna have some "wobble" to them. But the build on this one I
just got seems to be just fine.
