Question Can an AT&T Blackberry Bold 9700 be used on prepaid T-Mobile?

    Hello,

I am thinking about buying a blackberry 9700 off of craigslist. The original owner said that it was an at&t phone. Would I be able to use it on t-mobile's prepaid plan with blackberry services such as bbm?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, as long as it is unlocked. Note that you will not get 3G on the device. It will be EDGE only.

That has changed in some markets. As a result of the failed merger, AT&T has (was forced to?) transferred some 1900 MHz spectrum to T-Mobile. The San Francisco Bay area is one example of such a market.

So OP, yes--you will be able to use your phone on T-Mo once unlocked at at least 2G speeds.

I still only get EDGE on my Rogers 9900 on Tmo. I'm in Arizona.

Default Unlocking a Blackberry Bold 9700

To use a Blackberry from one carrier with another you need to get it unlocked.
When a carrier selling a Blackberry, it has a "SIM Lock" and when a SIM card from another carrier is used it can't connect to the network.. by unlocking the Blackberry Bold 9700 it will be free for use (SIM free) with another carriers.

So by unlocking AT&T's Blackberry Bold 9700 you will be able to use it with other GSM carriers...
About the Data and speeds.. With a Blackberry from AT&T, some devices will only get you EDGE (2G) speed data connection.
To get BBM you need a Blackberry data plan from T-mobile.
and if you are going to buy the AT&T Blackberry then remember to reinstall the service books to activate the data plan after unlocking it.
