Default Can I charge my phone with a non supported charger.

I have a bold 9700 from at&t that I have had for 13 months. I just replaced my battery as it would only hold a charge for approximately 4 hours.

I wanted a spare charger and my friend works at a verizon store so I asked him to get me one. He gave me this charger. Original Verizon Wireless Energy Conserving Micro USB Home/Travel Charger (EMICUSBDTVL, EMICUSBTVL) | CellphoneAccents
When i click "view product compatibility" a list of phones comes up and the bold 9700 is not listed. The phone charges fine when I use this charger but I fear I may have killed the battery since its not a "compatible" product.

So my question is would charging my 9700 with the charger I posted be detrimental to the life of my new battery?

Thanks in advance.

In short, if it is microUSB, you should be able to charge from it
without any problems.

I've charged with chargers from 200 ma up to 1.5A, the BlackBerry has been an equal opportunity charger.

13 months isn't too bad, but without knowing your use and charging habits, and whether signal issues recently have caused you to use a lot more power, a term of 4 hours on a charge is pretty generic.

BTW-I've killed batteries in 6 months, and none have lasted longer than 11 months for me. I'm a BlackBerry battery serial killer. And I like it.

Well, if it's a MicroUSB charger, it should be okay. Well, provided that charger is a legit one. Some fakes, or (i don't know what to call it charger) can be a phone buster too

Never had a problem with any kind of charger as long as it's got a micro USB plug on it.

USB charging is pretty much a standard specification now. Just that some may take longer than others dependant on the current available.

My wife uses an old Samsung charger and it works just fine.

As long it's not a cheap charger (low quality) it should be fine. The one you bought has an output of 5V-1000mA, which is the normal voltage for cell phone batteries charging with 1000mA per hour (technically). However, do notice if your phone gets really hot during charge cycle, you should unplug immediately. That heat kills/shortens battery life.

You'll be fine. I have charger everywhere so some of them not "official" BB's and I have not as of yet (knock on wood) has any issues.

Just any 5V micro-usb supply will be fine!
