I replied that doing that would render the whole point of having a global phone, a phone that works in every populated area on the planet, pointless given that I could no longer be reached on my normal number. Most of the international calls have short duration, there are quite a few number of international calling companies that offer low international rates that can do the job. Therefore i'd rather call using these companies than having to go to a place that has wifi to make a call. I would give up free calls + being stuck at a place that has wifi for mobility and being able to call anywhere i want that has reception for just a few bucks or cents.
UMA is great, but its not a deal breaker for me. I have great reception with AT&T with great data speed. So locally there is no need for me to use UMA. Internationally, i dont need it. I always use calling companies, which are great, because they give you a fixed number to which you can dial from a cell phone or landline phone. Therefore, if i run out of battery i can make a call using that number from a landline. | I don't use UMA, simply because my phone doesn't support it. If I had the option at a given place while I was out of the country, great. But I would guess that most of the time I wouldn't, so I just end up with a massive bill if I've needed to talk on the phone a lot.
