Before there have quality problems with Blackberry's built in Mexico. I'm seeing if RIM has improved its QA from Mexico. If you don't have anything to add to this post that is helpful, please keep your snide remarks to yourself.
It's a hassle to return a Blackberry because of poor build quality

I've dealt with 4 different 9700's up to now. The screen on BOTH mexico made have a gap at the top resulting in disgusting amounts of dust and finger grease getting stuck there.
Both Canada made were perfect in that sense. Other then all, the rest was all the same.

Needless to say, my 9700 is Canada built.

I've had a Mexican built 9700...and it was perfect. I have a Made In Canada one now...and it's solid also, aside from a couple of creaks in the bezel, but no biggie at all.

I don't see any real difference!

My phone was made in mexico in october and it is PERFECT. So really, its not a clear, solid line between where it's made and how it turned out. People are just way too anal.

Well realistically, I can't vote on which is better...
But for the record, mine was made in Mexico 11/01/09 & I haven't had any negative issues with it.

mine is mexico built and all i can say is, my trackpad makes a squeeking sound when trying to scroll down, bezel is loose/squeeks, screen goes black, and inability to receive any phone calls. Needless to say, it's a phone and that's why we have warranty.

Mine was made in Mexico in 11/2009 also and it's perfect so far. Pretty hard to answer the question unless you have one from both places to compare.

Only issue I have is squeaky silver frame, thus some light bleeding. No biggie for me. Mine is from Mexico. I got a new one for my GF and it is also from Mexico. That one is perfect. Also, I convinced friends to switch from iPhone to 9700. Both of them got 100% perfect brand new 9700. All of these three perfect are from Mexico with born date on December.

    No experience with Canadian 9700

The ones from Canada don't have the spacing at the top? That's interesting. Why is it that they make the BBs differently in different countries? It doesn't make sense to me. Can anyone explain?

I've had both. First I had an mexico phone, and I notice the screen had a yellow color to it. (Yes, I had auto dim turned off) The only reason I noticed it was because my 8900 had a perfect bright white background color. (You can notice this on websites, or if you're in the options) I went to the T-mobile store, and noticed their store model was as bright as my 8900. I showed them my phone, and they could not figure out why mine had a yellowish dim color to it. They sent me to another store, and I found one made in Canada that had a bright white screen. Part of my case got recently cracked, and T-mobile sent me a replacement. Guess what, it was made in Mexico. I sent the phone back, and decided to order the case online. I did notice the touchpad on the Mexico phone was more lose than my Canada phone.

During high demand RIM has to find different manufactures for the parts. Manufactures can only make so much.

Where it's from has no bearing on the build quality.
There will be junk phones from canada and mexico. It's a crapshoot either way. If you got one of the good ones, be happy. If not, warranty.

Both of the 9700's in my house are from mexico.

I'll second this remark! I bought my first 9700 a week ago, made 9/09 and from Mexico. Worked great at first than after about 4 days got a wobbly trackpad, store said I was being too picky (really... picky after I just spent almost $500 on a phone). So took it home, than yesterday phone started freezing up, and than today started randomly turning off so I took it in to get looked at and they gave me a new phone.

Now this phone has been booting up for almost 3 hours and it's stuck so off to the store again tomorrow to get a new 9700. If I have one more problem I may switch to a different model blackberry my husband has the Tour maybe I'll get what he has since he has not had a single problem with his.

I don't blame you for asking this question!
