Default Best router for UMA?

What would be the best router for UMA out there at this time?

Or is there a way of checking the specs on the router to figure out if UMA is allowed.

right now I am using the WRT54G I would like to know if there is something better.

Take your WRT54G and install Tomato 1.28 open source firmware on it. As long as you don't require Wireless N speeds, you will not find a better router than the good ol' blue Linksys with 2 antennas running Tomato. Somebody will probably argue with me and say DDWRT is better, but if you want something simple and elegant that just works, Tomato it is.

The speed depends on your internet service provider, your router's speed is only for computer-to-computer (networking) communications like LAN gaming. If your signal is fine, I don't think you'll need to switch routers.

Go to http://www.pingtest.net/
Run a test, try multiple servers, then you'll know the quality if your internet service.

I tested out a few locations and these were my pings.

100ms/138ms SC
77ms/84ms WV
22ms/3ms Montreal
21ms/3ms DC

There are times where I get errors and it seems like my web-browser wont load up any pages like my internet turns into dial up and pages take forever to load.

The ping can really affect the quality, as what your results are, it makes it seem like dial-up. Now if you want, go to http://www.speedtest.net/ and click Settings, specify Kilobytes as the speed measurement, then click Save Settings. Kilobytes is what your browser measures speed in, up to 1024 kb/second, from there it increases to megabytes.

Now, isn't your connection speed slower than advertised? Yeah, they only show the "fast speeds" in bits, which when converted, aren't very fast at all. Knowledge really helps.

The highest speed if your isp's true speed. Mine is 525 kb/s with 80 kb/s upload, yours is faster downwards, but 20 kb/s less than mine. Not bad!

Maybe you could reset the router and see if anything improves, which usually resolves any uma and other connectivity issues, when needed.

Your cable service is probably 10 Mbps / 512 K. 998.5 kB/s / 60 kB/s is about right for this connection, so it's not your router / internet connection that's the issue. I would make sure your computer doesn't have any viruses / malware, etc.

Look on the bottom of your unit and check which version of the router you have. Tomato on the WRT54G will only work on version 1 - 4.
