.545 works best for me , Bell unlocked BB on Rogers.

.545 seems to give me best radio connections / fast WiFi lock and there are no problems with A/V BT connections which is prevalent in all the later releases.

Wonder when we ll get an update with non-screwed up BT handshake protocol stack.

Was running .656 for the longest time before upgrading to .862 a few days ago. Loved .656, but .862 is so much better between the battery life and the smaller size. I approve

I have just downgraded to 714 as 862 was so choppy when I was browsing through pics. 714 from T-Mobile FTW

I was on 586 for a few hours after I got my 9700, but then I updated OTA to 714 and I've been pretty happy with it. At least Tmo's still supporting this one unlike the 8900, which had ONE update in July of last year and was then forgotten.

I trust T-Mobile's OS releases most.....they seem to the most stable.

    Default Strongest radio ???

In our basement suite I often lose reception in the hallway or bathroom, outside the house signal strength is about -70, now I'm on a 'brand new' network so I don't want to be overly picky, BUT, in the opinion of other 9700 users, which OS has the strongest radio? I'm currently on 862...

I have heard many people complain about the radio reception of the 862 OS which in their opinion what explains the longer battery life they got is coz of the bad reception.

Just read the sticky and some of the comments and you'll notice what I mean.

I was having call disconnections every 3 mins with 862 and I never figured it out I thought it was just my location but apparently it wasnt.

I suggest you downgrade to 714 as it is the best OS for the 9700 I have done my homework well before I chose this OS

Thank you very much I was really on the fence about downgrading, but went down to 714 earlier today as per your suggestion, and so far I now have a stronger signal in my basement suite.

This is complete user opinion. .862 has been wonderful (and is also winning in this thread). If it doesn't work for you, something is wrong you/your device lol

Also, make sure that the carrier that RELEASED .862 uses the same bands as your own carrier (I believe 2 different .862's have been released, I have not checked if they cover the same network bands).

If you're installing an OS that is made for a carrier that doesn't cover your own carriers bands, and then complaining that it doesn't work proper, this is where the "something is wrong with YOU" part comes in.

If you have installed the proper OS for your carriers network bands, and still are lacking in signal, your device is borked. Or you should do a few battery pulls.

    Anyways, just sayin.

Awesome news man! I told you it's much better!

T-Mobile releases very stable OS for our berries so I trust them.

Mind you I am not biased to them as I am in a diff part of the world that his crappy barriers like the one I haven ow DU

But like I advised you have seen it with your own eyes.

Just try internet browsing and see how much faster it is, especially when you download a file d00d

Silly, subjective gibberish. Try them all, find what suits your needs, and use it.

PS - anyone getting more than a day's battery life, you're doing it wrong.

Okay, so something is wrong with me, and my device... Okay. Sure.

So your the expert on network bands I see... Well then genius, if the OS is so 'carrier frequency dependent', then why does my Bold (bands 1,2,5,6) even operate in 3G if I'm using T-Mobile's 714? (because a T-Mobile Bold is bands 1,4,8 but your a genius and already know that.) According to your magical knowledge base, my phone shouldn't work properly at all with this OS, let alone actually work better. Hmmm...

    Anyways, I'm just sayin .

Okay, bands are 1,2,5,6? Frequency bands, man. In your case (Sasktel?) runs on 850/1900MHz HSPA.. T-Mobile is apparently running on 1700/2100MHz HSPA. (These numbers were researched in about 30 seconds and may be inaccurate, just an example). Do you see how these do not match? This would cause your phone to not be able to RELIABLY pick up a 3G connection, and may default you back to slower network access.

No need to flame, we're all friends here. Different networks run different frequences (and some use the same technology), which is why builds that are built for specific carriers may not function as they should when installed on devices running on OTHER carriers. I wasn't being a ****, merely offering an idea as to why things may not be working as they should for some.

You took my "something wrong with you/your device" wayy to personally. It's best not to take everything so directly. I apologize if I hurt your feelings, your flower bouquet is in the mail.

Nice theory, but ummmmmmmm no. Every sfi file has the ability to run either set of bands, and the impregnated carrier identity on the chipset determines which set the device will use.

Don't ya dare give the man pansies.

I'm all about a good debate, but I hate when people on internet forums make a disagreement into a personal attack. Its all good though, and thanks I like flowers.

If you search the whole Bold 9700 OS version vs. frequency supported debate you'll finds lots of heated threads about it. However, I think the general consensus is still that the Bold 9700 OS version is not carrier frequency dependent. I've only had my 9700 for two weeks, so all I know so far is what I've read here...

People think that the 862 give u more battery life they dont know that comes at the cost of the signal reception. it's crap on the 862

.862 affects everyone in different ways, both positive and negative. For me, it's excellent. Never had a single issue with signal or battery life.
