9700 Media Card Module replacemenet??

My 9700 won't read any media cards. I've scoured the forums but haven't seen any solutions for people who have figured out it's a hardware problem!

Just to re-state the seemingly common problem: my device won't read any media cards (tried several). I have:
- done numerous battery pulls
- formatted multiple cards on my PC
- inserted/removed the cards with phone on, off, battery pulled, etc
- reinstalled, downgraded OS twice
- cleaned contacts on SD cards
- opened phone to check ribbon connector from card module to board

Warranty's long gone, so am I wrong in thinking that my only option now is a hardware fix? And the real question: has anyone done a DIY media card module replacement? I can't seem to find tutorial vids anywhere and it seems like a pretty tricky operation.

The last thing I want to do is take it to a shop and pay $100 for them to tell me it's toast, but I'm getting very impatient...

First of all, you didn't need to make another thread, but post in this one (found via a search): media card can not be accessed due to fatal error!?!?

Next, a repair shop is where you need to go to have the module replaced. You could buy the part from eBay and then bring it with you, only paying for the dis/reassembly of your device.
