9700 antenna
So friend was telling me that his 9700 top volume button was not working. So I took apart the phone and fixed it for him. I put it together and he went on his way. This morning he is telling me that in places he would have full signal, he is now getting one bar. In his house, he gets no singal.
What could be causing this? May I have touched the antenna or something? I don't even know WHERE the antenna is

It is kind of hard to say whether our not you caused a malfunction by taking the phone apart since i can't tell what you did. I would imagine, and this is from my own experience when i take my phones apart, that no damage should've been caused.
I think the only way of knowing is by taking the phone apart and putting it back together once again. - 05-04-2010, 07:53 AM

Do you know where the antenna is located?
I just took apart my 9700 and put it back together and it works fine. I've taken apart numerous phones and never seen this. - 05-04-2010, 08:23 AM #4
I believe the antenna is near the bottom of the phone... not totally sure about that since I really don't want to VOID my warranty like you just did for your friend.

Same thing happened to me!
I got a new housing for my blackberry and took it to be put on by a licensed cell phone place. When I got home, I had NO service. I had to actually drive two miles away from my apartment before I could get any. Did you ever find out how to fix it?? I miss my phone!

The housing could be containing some kind of metal shielding that's cutting service or it's a new bug RIM didn't fix.

If you forgot the two screws at the bottom of the device, this will affect service severely. I'm talking about the two screws under the trim plate with the carrier branding.
I've sipped many different Kool-Aid's...
