Go to your Connections, scroll down to the options for your mobile connection and change the Networkingmode on the bottom from 3G and 2G to 3G....

If that was your question :-)

Or on OS6...

Go to home page top menu bar >
Scroll to Mobile Network Options >
Scroll to Network Mode > 3G

First of all, what carrier are you on and in what country?

Then to what carrier is the device branded?

Carrier: Optus
Country: In Australia

9700 was purchased - new, on contract with Optus. There is no carrier branding. Phone was unlocked _ when you purchase a phone on contract her in Au, 24 mths the phone is unlocked.

Had the phone since 2009.

OP, If the carrier doesn't support 3G, you are stuck on 2G (EDGE).

If your device is AT&T branded, you'll only get 2G on t-mobile. If it's t-mobile branded, you'll only get 2G on AT&T. There is no way to force it to latch onto 3G either way.
