3G Bands

I got a 9700 (gift from a friend, unlocked phone to work on my carrier). My plan is suppose to have 3G (9300 is now dead). when i used my sim in another 9700 (dad's) i got 3G but not on my handset.

Im a OS6 version which is not the official one by my carrier.(crappy claro latest official is OS5)


My phone's 3G bands are 1,4,8.
My dad's are 1,2,5,6. (official os by carrier)

do these values have anything to do? are these OS related or handset related.

It has to do with the actual device itself, not the OS.

Yes. The bands you have are for T-Mobile USA, which uses the AWS bands for 3G. The only carriers in North America that use those bands are T-Mobile USA, Wind Mobile (Canada), Mobilicity (Canada), and Cincinnati Bell (USA).

You will only get EDGE (2G) using a device with the 1, 4, 8 bands.

You need a device with the 1, 2, 5, 6 bands like your dad has. AT&T devices use the 1, 2, 5, 6 bands.

Unless you are able to sell your device to someone who has T-Mobile, Wind Mobile, Mobilicity, or Cincinnati Bell.

Lak611 is right,
You need a AT&T branded device that supports the 1, 2, 5, 6 bands.
You can sell / replace your Blackberry Bold 9700 with another one that supports those bands (At&t branded device).
