Sprint 9650 With ATT PrePaid SIM
I have an old 9650 that was given to me by my father because I wanted a nice phone with a physical keyboard. I have been doing research and know that the 9650 is unlocked, but when I put my ATT Prepaid SIM in I get nothing. I set the preferred network to GSM and all I get is SOS near the antenna icon. I checked the settings and as far as I can tell it is unlocked... it says SIM Sercurity Disabled. But it isn't connecting to ATT, sometimes it finds ATT sometimes TMO. But I can't make a call. I don't need Internet or anything like that, just SMS and Phone. Any ideas? Thanks.

When you go to Options > Advanced Options > SIM Card and type mepd (you need to hold down the shift key when you type), what does it read next to "Network"?
If it reads "Inactive" or "Disabled", then it is unlocked. - 07-13-2012, 05:45 PM

Thanks for the response, it says:
SIM Card: Security Disabled
SIM Disabled
Network Disabled
Network Subset Disabled
Service Provider Disabled
Coporate Disabled
Also when ever I try and access the SIM I get denied. I hit Edit SIM Number and entered my phone number and it says error accessing sim. I get the same message if I try and retrieve my contacts from SIM as well. - 07-13-2012, 06:37 PM #4
Have you tried a different SIM card?
Is it possible that the SIM card slot is broken? - 07-13-2012, 06:42 PM

Unfortunately I don't have another SIM to try, well except the one that came from Sprint. I doubt that the SIM slot is bad, this phone is practically brand new. Was used for like a month.... : /

Your Blackberry 9650 is unlocked but i'm not sure that you are using a valid sim card.
Have you tried this sim card with another mobile device?
If it's working with another phone then try to connect to the network manually. - 07-15-2012, 05:08 PM

I was actually able to figure it out. Wasn't a problem with the phone at all, ATT locks their sims to a certain IMEI for 180 days. Called them up told them I broke my phone and needed to have it unlocked and they did. Cake.
Thanks for all the help!
