Please help! Big problem
Ok..so where do I start?
First, I'm a relative newbie so please if anyone could help it would be appreciated....
I got my Bold 9650 (verizon) a little over a month ago and loved it. Everything was working fine.
I downloaded some themes, wallpapers, apps to make it "mine:.
Well last night as I was putting it into bedside mode, it froze.
So I did a battery pull.
When it rebooted, it froze on the permission screen for Poynt.
Did another battery pull. Same thing.
Tried again. Same thing.
Went to apploader and uninstalled Poynt.
Battery pull, and it did reboot, got to my homescreen and then nothing.
Nothing would work. No response from any button I pushed. In fact it turned off.
Went to DM and did a backup and restore. Battery pull reboot.
And it's still doing the same thing. Will get to homescreen and than shut off.
What do I do know?????!!! Please am so frustrated. I loved this phone and
want it to work....
Anyone?
Thanks! - 01-17-2011, 07:55 AM #2
It sounds like you will have to reinstall the OS.
Go to the forum for your device and there will be a stickied thread for the latest OS. Download it and in that thread there should be a link that will tell you how to install the new OS, if you haven't ever done it before. -

Go to your carrier's site, find the support page, then the software page. There should be a button to upgrade your software. Follow that linke and download the version of the software that is the latest for your device to your PC. Once you have done that, double-click on the file that you downloaded which will decompress the OS and install in in a folder so that you can access it to load it on your device.
Backup your device, if you can, with something like BBSAK. You can get that from: <A href="http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/bb-apps/13...html</A>. Install it on your PC, then plug in your device, start BBSAK and backup your 3rd party apps
Now, navigate to c:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader. Double-click on loader.exe this will backup your device, wipe it and install the OS that you downloaded and restore the apps and data that it backedup. Once this has completed you should be good to go. The BBSAK backup is insurance in case something happens during the OS install process and you need it to restore your apps.Bob

thank you
Hi..
Just an update...it seems that the phone is on, but the screen just goes black and won't respond to any keys. For example, I received a call, but could not answer it as the the phone is not responding to any of the keys. I'm getting notifications as well but obviously can't access them.
Does this seem like the same issue? I guess I'll just have to do a wipe and reinstall - I'm just afraid...I'm so not good with this sort of thing
But I will give it a shot,
Thanks! - 01-17-2011, 12:05 PM

so here is the latest..
I tried and tried to look for the software to download on to my pc, and it just kept telling me to plug my BB in and wouldn't allow me to install the latest because it said I already have the latest...
And in order not to mess anything else up, I called Verizon tech support and they couldn't figure it out either...we tried everything over the phone but it seems the keys are just not working anymore. The phone will turn on, but I can't do anything with it - not answer calls, turn it off, access bb menu or icons..nothing. I haven't dropped it or had any thing spill on it or moisture that I can think of. The keyboard just stopped working.
It just dims out and I have a blank screen - and no keys will bring it alive.
So I'm just getting a replacement sent. It's the best option I think.
Thanks for the help! -

Just in case you need to get the most current official OS5 for vzw, you can download it from here: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!.
This is OS 5.0.0.975, your phone probably came with OS 5.0.0.1006 if you got it within the last month or so; however, that version has never been released as an official so I don't know where to get it. The .975 has been reported to be a very good and stable version.
I'm not surprised that the CSRs were not much help, that is often the case; however, if they send you a replacement phone you should be good to go.Last edited by BoDeb; 01-17-2011 at 12:39 PM. Reason: Add update info

Mine had the 5 v.975 so it was the latest...I'm not sure what this new replacement one will come with.....Being a new user the one I had seemed to be fine for me, so whatever comes I hope it's the same
And thanks for the link...if I don't like what's on there I can attempt to put the .975 back on there.....or If I'm brave enough....OS6????!!!
Oh, and the new phone should arrive tomorrow...let's hope...using my old "dumb" phone right now and man it feels all wrong

To the OP, if you are a noob...I would suggest you use your phone with the OS that comes pre-loaded first. Then if you feel comfortable, you can upgrade to OS6.
6 is very different from 5.
Although I love OS6 it can be quite a culture shock. lolI'll Always Be Ramblin' in Rehab: Where the real Bold addicts are!

Thanks jaydee...
I will do as you suggested...I didn't mind OS 5 (though i don't know any different
)
And yes, I think being a newbie I will leave well alone until I am more comfortable and or the official OS 6 comes out.
I must say that I am a bit bummed that this happened to my Bold - only had it since December, and having to get a certified like new to replace it makes me cringe a bit - I just don't want any problems with this "new" one. - 01-18-2011, 10:39 AM #12
I can certainly understand your apprehension about getting your Bold replaced with a certified like new. I had my original Bold for 7 months before I had to get it replaced and I kept saying, "mine is new, I don't want a used phone." Then I realized that MINE WAS USED!!!!
and the refurb was better than mine. Sturdier, keypad better, cleaner, etc. So it wasn't so bad.
Don't worry. It will work just fine! They have to make it right for you.

OS
Me again..
The OS that came with the replacement phone is 5.0.0.1006
Haven't had a chance to really play with it yet so I can't tell the difference from .975 yet.
But - I have my Bold back!

I'd love to know what the differrences are and more puzzling is why the 2011 Bolds have this build & it wasn't officially released from VzW(I've been checking their website daily). This is where my speculation of what OS their supposed to be releasing tomorrow comes in play that it may not be OS6.
And all this hype, it could wind up being nothing!

There is probably no difference. Maybe someone who has installed both can check out the sfi files. They might be different. Otherwise, everything is going to be practically the same. Has to.
As for tomorrow, if its an OS5 update....woe is me. I will have to try another hybrid as this one is getting stale and slow. Must be all my crazy apps.I'll Always Be Ramblin' in Rehab: Where the real Bold addicts are!
