Default Opera Mini has given my 9650 a new lease on life!

I think I might just hang onto my 9650 for a while and save my money for a few months.

The only reason I was wanting to upgrade to an os7 device was for the faster browser.

I've discovered that Opera Mini finally works on my phone. The latest release was better when it came out, in regards to track pad sensitivity, but was still too sensitive. Ever since I loaded .587 it was much better and usable for me.

Now I have BBOS 8 over .587 and it's even better yet! The whole phone feels like a new and different device. Thanks guys!

If you have tried Opera Mini and found it close to usable but not quite there. I recommend updating the os and giving it another try.

I even ordered myself a new keyboard to replace my worn one.

I'm loving my new old phone.

I only can complain about full websites being too slow. Most of the problem is my poor signal strength. When I'm stuck on 2g the stock browser is just about useless for a full website where Opera is considerably faster.

On mobile sites Opera is still faster but not enough to make a huge difference.

I use Opera on my 9650 whenever possible because, for me at least, it's vastly superior for browsing sites. I just hate the error message it frequently will throw back saying it can't make a connection and for me to check my network settings. Usually I just have to exit Opera and go back in yet sometimes I have to battery pull.

I've always had this issue with Opera on every blackberry I've installed it on.

I see....U.S. Cellular doesn't offer 3G? Webkit works great for me on Sprint.....but admittedly...the 9650's slow CPU is also a culprit with full websites being "slow"..especially those with Javascript.

Yes USCC does have 3g. With LTE beginning to roll out next month. My problem is that I live and work on the fringe area of 3 different towers with a Verizon tower in the area too. My phone has trouble holding on to the 3g signal and often drops down to 2g.

Maybe I'm wrong in thinking that a faster processor would help browsing when the phone is receiving a slower stream of data.

At any rate, Opera has made a big difference for me. I'm not sure what changed in the os to give the trackpad sensitivity issue that last little tweak but I'm sure glad it did.

I wish BIS 4.1 was coming to os6 devices but it sounds like we will be out of luck for that upgrade.

I use both browsers but I find that Opera Mini works better than the native browser on my phone.

Not really, I tried OM 6.1 yesterday and deleted it yesterday. Not much difference in page loading.

I'm at the Opera site and 9650 isn't on the list of supported devices. 9700 shows up, but it asks about firmware edition 4.2.1, 4.3, or 4.7.

Where do you get it? App world didn't show it, either.

Thanks. Worth a shot. My company has blocked all the fun stuff on the regular browser, but nothing is blocked on Bolt...but Bolt is terrible.
