New to blackberry
I am planning on buying the blackberry bold 9650 this week for my verizon account and I was just wanting to make sure that the $29.99 data plan is all i need for the phone?

Yes, a data plan is all you need on top of your voice plan. Text messaging is optional.
In case you didn't know Verizon now has 2 data plan options:
$15/month = 150MB of data
$30/month = Unlimited Data
If you're a heavy user (use Pandora, lots of email, heavy web browsing) I'd suggest to go with Unlimited. If you do lite to medium browsing but mostly email, I'd suggest the $15 as BlackBerry doesn't eat up as much data compared to an Android or iPhone. - 11-17-2010, 10:03 PM

Yup! That is it; however, I noticed that vzw now has a $15 plan available that allows considerably less data per month. I suspect that for most users that plan will be ample. We are considering that plan for my wife, she currently does not have a smartphone and we are talking about activating my old Tour 9630 for her to use. If we choose to do that we would put her on the $15 plan at least to get started and see how much she really uses.
I actually went back and looked at my bills for the last few months and found that I didn't use any more data than what the $15 plan allows, may at some point downgrade my plan to that one.
You may want to consider the less expensive plan at least to start and see if that is OK for your use, unless you know that you will be a VERY heavy user of the browser and will be downloading lots of large files.Bob

I keep hearing about tiered data plans being on the horizon for Verizon. Has anyone found out anything about it? I know plenty of blog sites mention it, but things don't seem concrete at the moment.
As far as the 150MB plan, I wasn't aware of it for blackberry users. At least, not in recent memory.I will never understand these "help me to decide" threads. started on Oct. 28th..i lowered my plan to the $15 plan, which is a win-win..if you stay under, you save $15 from the $30 unlimited that I'm used to - if you go over, they just tack the extra $15 onto your bill for another 150MB of data, which I'll never touch..
I stay under and I feel as though I use it pretty heavily..a lot of web, multiple email accounts, twitter/weather updates all day long, etc.Items for sale..check them out and PM me if interested!

Just use WiFi whenever possible and you'll really save with the $15 data plan.

We did the same thing for my wife by getting her the $15 plan. Probably couldn't have justified getting her a BB if the $30 plan had been the only option. And as others have mentioned, I might downgrade to the $15 plan as well since I used WiFi at home most of the time and even with what feels like a lot of 3G browsing as well, I still don't surpass 150 MBs.

Gee, 150 Mb data plan? Well, my wife and daughter could handle that, but that would only get me through about a day and a couple of hours.
Yeah, tiered data is good for a lite user. I'd have to see how I do after I get a Wi-Fi enabled device.
OP, enjoy the 9650, it has been a pretty popular device for many.
