Is My Lock Button Done?

Today out of nowhere my lock button (top left) seemed to be requiring more than a tiny tap like usual to work. I pressed it even harder a few times and still didn't seem to work. After a very very firm click in the screen finally dimmed.

If I press it down like I used to or a little harder, I can hear a tiny click but it doesn't lock. Is my button just wearing out?

So when you are prying that top part off you say "Be careful", but it just seems like a general statement. You seem to be giving that little plastic card a decent amount of force so it seems difficult to be careful. Kind of a confusing two sentences I know, but that part just worried me a bit.
