In my experience, this happens from time to time. If uninstalling and re-installing doesn't fix it, you might have to just wait it out. I've had it start working again given some time. This leads me to believe it's something on the msn server end, even though it's not logical that it would only happen to your device. I've had it happen to yahoo, msn, and aim in the past. Usually after a day or two the problem messenger service will start working again.
