Default Keyboard stays lit when in charging pod

When I place 9650 into the charging pod the keyboard lights stay on. Once in a while they go off like they're supposed to.

Anyone know what's up?

Mine have always stayed on if I just drop it in the charge pod. They've never gone off so I never knew they were supposed to. The only time they go off is if I enter Bedside Mode.

Yes, it all dims when Bedside Mode is active. At least that works!

I've notice that the illumination in the room makes the keypad light stay on or go off when in the pod. Daytime it goes off and at night it stays on until I put it on bedside mode. The darker the room seems to make the keypad stay on.

Hmm...this would imply that there is an ambient light sensor, which it don't think there is. It is probably just the contrast between the darkened room and the normal keyboard back-lighting.

I've never seen mine dim unless it's in bedside mode.

Yeah, the keys stay fully lit. Strange because when I charge using USB the keys go dark.

To be honest I like the way the keypad lights up while its in the pod, it looks KOOL. When I go to bed I just put it on bedside mode and it dims.

I suppose it's ok. I just get concerned if it heats up too much by having the lights stay on. Or charges slower.

If there is no ambient light sensor, then why is there a check box in the Screen Display for Automatically Dim Backlight? Mine is checked and my screen and keyboard will change brightness based on the room lighting.

The auto dimming is based on time, not 'ambient light'. There is no ambient light sensor on the 9650 (or any BB).

I thought that there was. If you put your BlackBerry in bright direct sunlight, the screen gets bright. In dark, it dims.

Exactly. And why else would there be an auto-dim option if there was no way to automatically dim based on something other than guess? Mine clearly dims and brightens based on ambient light, not a timer.
