Keyboard backlight never ever turns on

Thanks to the original poster for this tremendous information. I just finished replacing my keyboard ribbon cable as described in this thread. Seems to be working as intended, and my keyboard is lighting up for the first time in 6 months. Woo hoo!

Ended up buying the cable from a seller on eBay for a few bucks less and free shipping. And it even had the button thingys for the side buttons.

And thanks to the post of the link to the teardown video. Without that I don't think I ever would have tried to replace the ribbon (and surely would have destroyed my Bold if I did).

I am having similar problems with my 9650. I know that it has some water "damage"...I got bath water on it while using Pandora and singing to my son while giving him a bath. Since that happened, the backlight for the keyboard has not lit up at all, and the indicator LED on the top front of the phone won't shut off. While replacing the keyboard ribon cable, what should/can I do to fix the LED issue?

has anyone had the opposite problem? I had my screen replaced and now my keyboard light won't turn off. thanks for any help!!!
