Default I Now Count Myself Among Those Who Hate Their Blackberry (But I'm Open to Suggestions

Ok. First let me say I used to love blackberry. I did. I really really did. And I still love certain things about this thing, but oh my god I'm getting frustrated with some stuff...
Any help with any of this would be appreciated.

1) 6.0.0.706 led to constant reboots, so i had to downgrade to 6.0.0.600 which has the performance of a Gameboy. The original one, too. Not one of those cool new gameboys. No, the old one with the green screen. Not that performance was great with 6.0.0.706....I guess that's what I get buying a blackberry that worked reasonably well with 5.0 and pretending it was going to work well with 6.0 even though they came out together. OK, now I'm just ranting.

2) My lock/unlock and volume: Down button only work now when you mash them. This thing is like, 16 months old! Are you friggin' kidding me?!?!?

3) Did I mention the thing is tremendously underpowered? God....

4)Sometimes, especially in 6.0.0.600 (I think) when the phone starts blinking, letting me know I've received a notification, I pick it up and touch a button to turn the screen on.
Except...the screen won't turn on....Sometimes it will turn on 15 seconds later. Sometimes it iwill turn on 30 seconds later if I hit the unlock button. Sometimes it just doesn't, and eventually I give in and do a battery pull. To see my friggin' text message....any thoughts?

5) Why is it that every time I use my contacts app and hit the back button, the phone freezes for about 20 seconds? Like, the contact app is such a demanding application for this 400mhz processor? Seriously...

-Stephen

Time to troubleshoot it. Sounds like you have OS issues, or memory. How many apps? What is your file free?

I would make a backup, and wipe the phone completely. Only load the contacts back on, and go from there. See if you can pinpoint the problem. Could be an app, could be the OS. Any possibility of going back to OS 5?

.600 has been known for all sorts of performance and other issues. 706 works well for many but .587 has been a stable OS for quite a while now. You might want to move back to .587 and see how things rung after a few days.

Constant reboots on 706 has to be an app conflict. Have you tried 706 and re-installing your apps one at a time? And waiting a day in between to see which is the culprit? Or waiting even a few hours in between? That may help you to determine which app is the problem.

I used this procedure when I was troubleshooting a memory leak issue.

If your hardware buttons only work "when you mash them" sounds like you need a replacement.
My buttons have never worked like that and I have had 5 different handsets (for various reasons).

I have a 9780 and my phone use to freeze a lot when I opened the weather network app. I would have to battery pull a lot, I figured it was the app, so I got rid of it, no freezing or batery pulls since...

hm...I figured the button-mashing thing was a handset issue, as Jaydee suggested. Unfortunately, I'm out of warranty, so I think that's an issue I'll have to suck up.

I've decided to move back to .587 for awhile, I guess. If it's working well, in a few weeks when I feel frisky I may try and move back up to .706. If I have reboots again with that, I'll try you suggestion JayDee.

Thanks everyone! Especially you, Jaydee. I find your posts almost always well thought out and helpful.

Thanks,
Stephen

Stephen, glad to be able to give you some hope and encouragement! You kinda sounded at the end of your proverbial rope for a while there!

I think you will be satisfied with 706 if you install apps carefully and observe what happens in between. The only two times I had spontaneous reboots were after I installed two different beta apps (or trial apps) and each time, after I deleted them, all was good. I only hope this will be as easy for you.

Keep us posted!!!

I have found on my bold that every os6 I have ran I get the black screen that won't come out of sleep mode. My friend was venting to me the other day about it and when I went to go grab my bold it wouldn't come out of sleep mode for about 45 seconds. 10 mins later I was loading os 5/1030 on my phone and I haven't had a problem ever since.

As for the laggy os have you ever downloaded a full os on your comp and then preformed a full wipe of the phone to get all the built up crap out of the software. Load the os from scratch using the app loader and I can almost guarantee your phone will run like day 1.

I feel your pain man..and I do agree that this phone is definitely underpowered...especially for OS6..but OS .706 has somewhat helped and now it runs even better than ever for me with lots of apps (15+) installed
